Ok, I see u guys are now talking about the BC of the Playstation 3 well there are still BC Playstation 3's available just dig deep, well World of Warcraft would be cool on Playstation 3. The graphics would be better if they do it over or just polish it up and they can add a lot of extra features like everyday they monitor a small group of players (Blizzard's employees are monitoring their own selection of players) they can create cut scenes like if to players fall in love they can create a feature for the 2 players (unique feature) where if they are close they can perform an attack so strong it defeats a boss character with 1 blow, for example.

The one improvement they need right now is cross-game voice chat. And comparing your profiles with someone during a game takes too long, Sony need to speed it up. That's all I can think of right now.

Sigh.World of warcraft should stay on the PC.The only thing that I can think of is better suport for custom music, maybe a profile like the xbox360 where you can make a bio and and your friends list would be in a better showing perspective,a better web browser and in game private chat. Why would anybody want to bring WOW to the PS3?Give me one good reason.I don't even know why that idea would be in your head.Out of all the games that people want for the PS3 you say World of warcraft....Just play it on the PC.And no a 4 year old port would not give Sony anything to brag about at E3 09.

I second that, there was no justification for taking it out. Any fanboy who defends Sony for taking out backwards compatibility is a fool..

Yeah, they said it was to save manufacturing costs, but I'd have paid the extra bit to be able to play my PS2 games on it. Ah well, I still have my PS2 hooked up, so it's not all bad.

One thing we have to consider with BC is this.Would it even be worth it anymore.Yes I was pretty mad when I heard that I could not play PS2 titles on my PS3 but honestly do you think that an update to make PS2 titles play on the new versions of the PS3 be better than playing them on the PS2?I see that as a down grade.Cause obviously it would have to be done through software emulation. Lets look at the 80 gig.It uses the same type of technique and it only can play about 75% of the PS2 titles, and whether those 75% actually play right I am not sure.If you have a PS2,I really don't see why you would need to want BC.It would just be better to play them on your PS2.Now one reason I do see is space.I understand that in this day an age you have DVR,other consoles and whatever else clogging up your shelves so there might not be room for a PS2.So you look at your PS3 and wonder why it does not have this feature.

Yay, I'm a Fanboy and a fool. Well really from a business standpoint the cost of taking out the hardware for BC was around $100.00 (Emotion engine + Graphics chip roughly 50/50) this allowed Sony to drop the price of the console from 599 to 499. This did spur sales growth which lead to a larger install base for games, this in turn gave more incentive for developers to consider the PS3 as a viable platform. Even without BC the PS3 is still selling more than it would with it. When the PS3 first came out this board was flooded with system wars topics about how it was too expensive, gaming media outlets mentioned how expensive it was, left and right it was all about the price. Since the technology that went into BC is stable the price for those components (technology has been out for a while with the PS2) would probably not drop fast enough to allow for any future price cuts. Also the PS2 is making a large profit and is still selling quite well considering that all the new consoles are out. My theory is that once the PS2 bottoms out and stops selling, that there will be full software emulation introduced. Whether or not this will be in a firmware update or downloaded off the PSN for a price I have no idea, if I were to fathom a guess it would be PSN + Price since they can profit off this. By going full software emulation Sony only has to pay for the development of the emulation software. Whereas with the Hardware based components you still need to pay for production cost of those components.

I personally view the removal of BC as a downgrade over the original spec of console. I don't want to have to hook my PS2 up every time I want to play one of my PS2 games. I feel this is another one of Sony's huge errors of this generation, and one that they (and us) are paying for.

Sooo, your main complaint is that you can't play your ps3 as if it's a ps2...and you have a ps2. That's just brilliant.

Well if your like me and recived a ps2 when they were released, it no longer works anymore. And even if i was to get a new one i have no space on my desk as i have my tv, ps3 and mouse & keyboard and my HI-FI so there is no space for anything else. And if you can get a ps2 emulator on pc (Which i know are hard to work) im sure they could make one on the ps3

wha..what? Uhm dude, you feel you don't need BC? Good for you! You feel you wouldn't need to play ps2 games anymore? Good for you! You feel if you needed to play a ps2 game, you'ld just break out your old ps2 and plug it in? Good for you! That's all good, but it's not EVERYONE who feels this way! A LOT of people would still LOVE their ps3 to have BC! Who cares how much Sony saves? I and a lot of people care about how much value i get for my dinero. This is not much a complaint for me though as i have a 60gig of which i love very much, and the only reason i bought it as early as i did was because of the news of BC being removed. Gave my ps2 away after i bought it.

i have the 60 gig. so it has BC. guess how often i use my BC. never!!! not saying some wouldn't t use it often, but seriously i would bet that most ppl who care over the loss of BC on their PS3 are just crying just to cry. most would never take advantage of it. i've used it for GoW2 and FF12 back when the PS3 was short on good games, but now there are to many games out for me to use my BC. an improvement that i would like to see on the software end is for all new games to take advantage of full 1080P HD. seriously no more 720P. were past that now.

So they are talking about the PS4 in a few years... I would guess that it will play PS3 games because of Blu-Ray? Can someone clarify that on the technical end, or is it too early to tell.... as for BC now, I think from a busines standpoint Sony is doing the right thing and concentrating on the present and future... PS2's are awesome machines and have a phenomenal software library, I just think it's time to move on.

Get MAG out, speed everything up, trophys for every game, cross chats with friends not in you game, a way of making partys outside of games and taking them into games instead of leaunching from Home.

I actually like BC and I still have my PS2. I don't have to fire up another system, unlimited memory cards and they look and sound better with HDMI.

One thing I don't understand is why they're making Trophies mandatory in 2009, yet nothing about custom soundtracks.

Wow wouldn't survive on the ps3, But a MMOFPS concept like resistance 2 online would do extremely well.
