Did Sony ever say if and when this console was ever going to come out?

It's not a console, it's a firmware update that's due in June/July which will enable 3D gaming.Did Sony ever say if and when this console was ever going to come out?

hmm will this require a special tv or glasses?

Both.
3D gaming isn't going to be cheap, you need a 3DTV and of course the glasses in order to see it.
Ya, i'm convinced 3D is going to be the way of the future (kinda like HD is now), but if you want to get into it now, its gonna be obscenely expensive and there will probably be little support for this in the early years. Unless you got loads of money you dont know what to do with (LOL), i'd wait on making any big purchases. Expect this to be more mainstream 5+ years from now.

3D will probably make it look bad, I don't want it

Just out of curiousity, did you think Avatar looked bad?
Avatar did look good but game developers wont spend millions of dollars for special effects
GTAIV and MGS4 cost ~$100 million
Yea -The first tvs are soon to be appearing in UK shops-running in at thousands £s a piece and the glasses are around £100 a pairyeah this sounds pretty expensive then. I just got a new tv not too long ago, so i doubt i'll be getting another new tv any time soon anyway. Too bad, the 3d sounds pretty sweet.

The new Samsung LED can convert 2D to 3D with pretty decent results. I work at Best Buy and played GOW III in simulated 3D right before we opened for the midnight release.
It was weird at first, especially for platforming, but cutscenes looked awesome. You Could really see the added depth between your character and the background.
