Ok, so this is a shot in the dark but I'm hoping someone can help me fix my PS3, even though I'm assuming it's deader than dead. I've never had an issue with it until last night I popped in a Blu-Ray and the screen went black and froze up. Unable to turn it off (or put it to sleep) via the power button in front, I had no choice but to turn it off by the switch in back. Since then, when I turn it on, if I get any picture at all it is completely distorted and pixelated to the point where it just looks like static and becomes almost completely unresponsive. I've double-checked the connection to my tv and tried it on a different tv with the same results. I tried putting it into Safe Mode several times and it either turns on with no picture or sound or again the screen is so garbled I can't tell what's going on. The one time I was successful getting it into Safe Mode with a picture that was distorted but coherent, it completely froze up at the screen where it tells you to plug in a controller with a USB and hit the PS button. The controller just blinked and wouldn't assign a slot or do anything. I realize that realistically it may be completely dead but any suggestions? Please?

Sure one suggestion is to unplug and remove the HD. Then reinsert the HD and give it a shot. GL! :)

Try to do the above, disconnect and reconnect the HDMI-cable. Switch of your PS3. Place your finger on the ON button(standby-button) on the front of the console. While keeping your finger on the stand-by button, switch the power (on the backside) on. Keep your finger on the stand-by button. The Ps3 will make a beep meaning it is turned on. Keep your finger on the stand-by button at all time. The Ps3 will keep making beeps at intervals. After the third beep has been heard, release the button. The Ps3 is now reset. NOW press the stand-by button again, and the PS3 will boot up and ask for your prefered tv-connection. Choose HDMI and see what happens :) good luck!

keep in mind resetting your PS3 is a long shot. And more often then not you might have to erase all your saves on the off shot. But it sounds like it died. modern consoles really don't last long. For every person that has one that last 5-10 years. ther eis easily 30 that have it die in 2-3 years.

It might not be dead. Something like that happened to me, it froze up and had a distorted screen, and attempting to reset the PS3 didn't work. I took it to a game shop, and it turns out my HDD was broken, so I got a new HDD. It's worked great ever since then... This was over a year ago, so I don't remember exactly if what happened to your PS3 is the same as what happened to mine, but it's worth getting checked out... Good luck.
