Was all excited after watching E3, they said the video store was up and running, turned on my glossy 60 gig in anticipation and to my disappointment no Video store there for me...assuming its because I am Canadian, or is it because I have update 2.4 instead of 2.41, either way, looks like no Movie night in my house tonite.

Can't stand how Sony announces things like this saying it is available now only to find out it isn't, if they announce such things as being specific to the US they should say so. NOTE TO SONY: The United States is not the center of the universe, not every PS3 owner lives there.

Peace

I'm also confused about this. Just as you, 2 days ago at night i went on the PN Store hoping to see that new Video icon at the top...only to find nothing. Sony never said that would be US only.

Clarification/update would be highly appreciated.

agreed that really pisses me off. The US isnt the center of the world (especially with there ever declining dollar) and as E3 was broadcast in english that means Canada's gonna be watching it to! I wouldnt htink it would be that hard to get liscensing from movie companies for both the states and canada. Whats the movie company gonna say "Uh yeah you can rent it in the states but we hate those canadiens!"

WOW, COPYRIGHT LAWS ARE NOT THAT DIFFERENT FOR CANADA, I CAN STREAM VIDEOS FROM THE INTERNET WITHOUT ANY INFRINGEMENT, SONY SHOULD HAVE GOT THERE S**T TOGETHER AND HAD IT READY FOR THE WHOLE REGION INSTEAD OF SEPARATING AS THEY SEEM SO GOOD AT.

Sorry but things ARE different in canada ... my guess is that ... the reason is our marvelous 2 official languages (hey I'm french but still hate getting stuff late because of some stupid law, just let them release the stuff in english only!)

So yeah my guess is: cause of our country

Internet's a bit different. Look up net netrality. But yes there are more layers of copyright/content laws you have to deal with in other countries. Sometimes hold up will be laws in canada sometimes restrictions will be due to the movie studios themselves.

But if you so interested in this... why don't you look up VOD from Shaw or Rogers or any other cable co. Most provide a rental service as long as you have a digital cable terminal very rural area. The only thing you can't do is purchase movies but you can do rentals.

You're right. At first i thought the idea of copyright was crap as all US licenses are in effect in Canada too. But then you bring up French language (maudit niaisage pour les films et les jeux...). It might be the reason. Then again, english/japanese only anime discs are released feely in Canada stores, so why not PSN Vid Store too? Actually that argument is also shot down. So why the hell do we get the short end of the stick really?

apparently there is some problems with the copyrights and laws because the M$ video stuff took a while to come out on the 360 and just like some videos of youtube can't be viewed in Canada because of them being published in America.

By the way fellow Canadians, i hope you realize when the video store is infact up, you should all be aware, the prices will all be much higher than the US video store, even though the Canadian Dollar is pretty much on par with the US dollar, they still make fools of us. (and yes i am not including tax, the prices are rediculous even before they add all the tax)

Im a pround Canadian but this absolutely blows, the copyright laws are copyright laws regardless, my guess is it was just more expensive. Sony never seemed to have much of a concern for there consumers to the north or south of the US border, they just want our money...

If the "american blockbuster" can set up shop here in Canada seems like the licensing can't be that complicated, also, I have yet to see any sort of explanation from Sony as to why they decided the wouldn't inform anyone that it would be US only, I figure they once again misinformed the public what was being offered.....how many PS3 owners new (or even care) that Canada doesn't have this option.....most likely no one knew...so praise to sony the US PS3 owners must think....praise to sony for bringing this Video store to the "world"

I'd like to point out that Sony owns the copyright to about half of the movies out there and I'm guessing all the movies in its video store. Is Sony worried it's going to sue itself? Don't believe the Sony PR machine. They don't care about us Canadians because we're a small market--and they don't need our business.

Of course, if they were smart, they would see a huge revenue opportunity in this untapped market of ten million consumers eager to get downloadable movies.
