It was probably Sony's idea. And yeah, that is pretty common knowledge.

The games you get for free is only free as along as your a psn+ member, since you didn't pay for it.

But it's not a bad deal imo since you get some good deals on discounted games exclusively for psn+ members. Also you get to keep those free avatars and themes offered only to psn+ members. You get to keep those even if your + membership expires.

If your someone who likes to shop alot on the psn store, then it's a good deal. Plus you get early access to some betas.

How is that a ripoff? You're getting the games for free, and nobody forced you to get PS+. The idea is pretty smart, and it was boldly stated so if you didn't read it's not Sony's fault.

PS+ has cloud storage for save data. That alone is worth every penny of the subscription to me seeing as I've lost all my saved data before due to ylod. The best part is, cloud storage even backs up the data that is copy protected.

Yes, it's smart for Sony because it's a scheme to make people keep renewing their membership, which is exactly why it's a rip off.

So you've basically saying it's a ripoff because the free 30 day trial you were given doesn't allow you to keep the all the conditionally free games you've downloaded. I don't see how it's a ripoff. Everything has been laid out in explicit detail countless times across hundreds of websites, even the Playstation Blog has FAQs dedicated to PS+.

When I bought my year of PS+ I was fully aware that all games I download free will expire once my year is up. I don't see how I'm getting ripped off and I actually paid for it. Besides, most of the stuff I've gotten free I probably wouldn't even have touched if I had to pay for it. Like A Space Shooter for Two Bucks, such an amazing game. Or Streets of Rage 2, which I went through Online Co-op with a friend. (He was on the trial)

Why would I expect anyone to feel sorry for me? I'm not one of the suckers who actually paid for a subscription.

If you don't see how it's a rip off, then you're exactly the kind of person Sony was hoping would buy it. I wouldn't be surprised if you're also the type of person who supports paying for Online Passes and pays $15 for virtual crap in Playstation Home that has no real world value.

What I said that I love about PS+ is that it lets me play full games that I otherwise wouldn't have given a crap about. There's no way I was going to buy Shatter, Digger HD, A Space Shooter for Two Bucks, Age of Zombies, Stacked and they were some of the most fun I've had on my PS3. You have to look it like this, not everyone keeps every game they own.

In the Gamestop era, people on average buy a game, beat it and trade it within a matter of weeks. With these games, I can play them to my heart's content while my membership is active. PS+ is sort of like that. I've beat nearly every free game I've gotten and randomly go back to them. If they're gone (If I don't renew) then I won't feel cheated because I've played those games to death.

What I've having a hard time understanding is your complaint that you're getting ripped off from a free trial of a paid service, in which the purpose was to get you to buy PS+ in the first place. It's not like Sony just dropped PS+ on you with no type of forewarning about how it all works. That's like joining the beta of a FPS and then getting pissed once it ends because you lose all the EXP you earned, despite the fact these conditions were well known when you signed up for it.

I know PS+ isn't perfect, nor is it for everyone. All I'm saying is, it's hard to fault something when you choose to accept the clearly laid out terms and conditions.

Its a marketing strategy, if you want to keep the games, you gotta keep paying them, free games = an investment for Sony from PS+ subscriptions and to be honest i like it :D Its like renting games except you only pay one rent fee and you get a new free game every month or so.

How is it a rip off when the free games were free? It's not a rip off because you can save a lot of cash on the discounts for games. For me it's worth it just for the download manager alone.

Don't get it then. I don't buy enough items from the store to benefit from it, but I know some people would benefit if they continued to renew it.

So you're complaining because they are not free with no catch at all? Sweet. Everyone knows how it works. $50 is not bad with all the games that they let you play, and all the extra discounts. Like the guy above me said, I doubt I'm going to care if I lose access to all these dozens of arcade games once my subscription expires. Although I'm not letting it expire, I'm going with one more year. After that who knows, depends if it carries over to PS4.

It's a great deal for those that like it, and not so much for those that don't. Quite simple really. "You don't like" isn't synonymous with "bad product"; it's just not for you. Insulting those that do enjoy the services ps+ provides doesn't back up your point any...

So by that Netflix, Redbox, Blockbuster and any other rental service is a rip off? I for one think PS+ is awesome I pay my $50 per year and get crazy discounts and free games to play all year. My HDD is just about full again.

Yes, it's smart for Sony because it's a scheme to make people keep renewing their membership, which is exactly why it's a rip off.

So, let me get this straight. You expect to keep the 12 PSN games, 24 PS Minis, 12 PS1 games, and all DLC you get over the 12-month $50 subscription? Clearly, this is a scheme by Sony to get people to renew their subscriptions, even though it's clearly stated that these games are tied to it.

Allows you to play more games since you don't own them in it's entirety.

And well, let's face it. You don't really need to own most of the games they offer. Complete them, plat if you loved them then move on. Seems good to me :)

Well, actually no. You're paying for a membership and can keep the games until you keep paying. You get a reduced price but its certainly not free.

PS+ is pretty much what you pay for. I don't see how people can say they are getting things for free when they pay 50.00 a year for the service. To each his own, but I didn't see anything special out of it after the free 30 days.

Well the "free" items come a no additional charge. $50 for a year of "free" games, avatars, themes, dlc, early access to betas/demos, and exclusive access to beta/demos is completely worth it. Not to mention the cloud storage for game saves... superb idea. One thing I would like to see is some discounts on the movie side of PSN. Other than that, I'll keep getting my $300+ worth of content for $50 a year. Also, knowing that the $50 PS+ fee is going to improve PSN overall (for everyone)... I'm more than happy to pay. It's Sony's way of getting their service up to par with XBL (which is revered as the standard for online play). I think they've done a pretty good job in the first year of PS+.

actually it is not a rip off. You have to be a heavy user of the PSN store to get the full benefit. You actually save a lot. Plus you got a free 30 trial. How can that be a rip off? You are able to see if PS+ is for you for free.IGN actually had a good article on if PS+ is worth it. (Sorry Gamespot, for promoting IGN)

The math is done for you in that article and Yes PS Plus is worth it.

Given how people sell their games back to Gamestop way under value once they're done with them, I don't see how you would be offended or even surprised that your free games are only free while you're subscribed. Even if you paid for say one month, you'd probably have enough time to play the hell out of all the games that come with it and probably won't come back to them ever again. I wouldn't say PlayStation Plus is a great service (as in offering meaningful additional services), but for someone who'd buy tons of digital content, it definitely pays off.

You can even save "copy protected" games to the PSN+ cloud storage though. There are a decent amount games you cannot copy the save data to a USB stick, and really the PSN+ cloud is the 1st and only way to backup those games (without doing a full system backup anyway).

I don't really see the cloud storage as an "essential" service of PSN+, but it's just another small thing that makes it worthwhile. Basically it's good to finally be able to save copy protected games that previously you couldn't backup, otherwise USB is fine.

PSN+ a rip off?

"Between free games, discounted games and DLC, Avatars and Themes, demos and Full Game Trials, PlayStation Plus has posted 286 separate pieces of content. And just between the free games, discounted games and discounted DLC, your maximum savings in PlayStation Plus' first year amounts to $881.57. That's approaching 18 times the cost of a 12-month subscription to PlayStation Plus and doesn't take into account Avatars, Themes, Full Game Trials or demos."

I think not.
