There is a $14.99 memory card converter that puts your ps2 and ps1 (if you have one) memory card saves onto the harddrive. And you can save internally through the system. Luckilly my friend bought this (I had no idea it was even out) and I just used his! Once you use it once to add your cards internally, its useless. I saved $15!

Thats a good question but Im pretty sure if you buy a new PS2 game itll just automatically save to the PS3's harddrive. But I cant confirm this yet.

I don't need any kind of adaptor or anything, I just click the PS button than assign slots which is just like a virtual memory card that uses the memory from your HDD.

You only need the adapter if you want to transfer saves from a PS2 or PS1 memory card ONTO the PS3 itself.

Yes. You can save PS2 game data onto the PS3 hard drive. How this works is the PS3 will create a virtual memory card that you can name to hold  the data. You can also transfer data from existing PS1 and PS2 memory cards over via usb with a memory card reading devise licensed by Sony. The transported save data will be assigned to a virtual memory card as previously stated. The virtual memory card literally act as memory cards, meaning you can assign the to slots and that they have a limit to the data held in each card (meaning  the virtual PS2 card will have a 8MB limit). You can make multiple cards onto the PS3 hard drive and switch assigned cards on the fly by selecting the 'Assign Card' option from the Home button menu. Also, the a recent firmware update now allows you to send save data from the PS3 hard drive onto PS1/2 memory using the same device that transfers memory card data. I hope this gave you the info you needed.
-Yes. You can save ps1 and ps2 games onto the hard drive.-Yes. You can transfer existing saves onto the hard drive via the memory card reader and transfer file back onto the card using the same device ($15 dollars currently).

Ah, that's great. I was thinking... should I buy a PS3 or Xbox360 Elite...? I was leaning towards the Xbox... But I've been a huge fan of Sony for a while now. I still play my PS2 all the time, and Was thinking... If the PS3 can save my games, Then I'll buy that right away

You do not need the memory card adapter to save PS1/2 games. You can save it directly to the hard drive by making a virtual memory card. The adapter is needed to transfer saves from the PS2 to PS3 or vice versa. You only need it if you had a PS2 and want to transfer saves over.

Ther is a special memory card slot on the 60gig version and you can create a virtual memory card on your hardrive to save game data.
