.... Mr. and Mrs. xbot, cause the way I see it, if $600 is too much then why not just pick up the wii or the box? I mean, the continious complaining and inquiring about a price drop everyday on PS3 forums by xbots just seems very excesive and anal. Sony isn't forcing anyone to buy their product, you either think it's worth it or not and if you don't think it's worth it, why complain on PS3 forums constantly? I don't get it. You all must like it a lot to talk about it and be so involved in it's daily happenings - constantly. I mean I wouldn't waste my time on  forums for products that I don't think are worth salt. So what gives? Why all the hate?

according to analyst the bluray drive and the cell proccesor cst around 300 to make each. The RSX cost around 100. And everything else in the system cost about another 125 dollars(memory stick, wifi etc) so they are losing about $250 for each ps3 sold. Whihc they will make up with game sales.

360 cost 525 to make but they sell it for 400. They will make money off games like with PS3

Wii cost around 150 to make(including the wii sports) so they are making $100 off each system, and making money from te games.

I so agree. All those PS3 haters are the ones who really want it but its so much money so most of them are bashing it.  Its well worth 600 dollars right now. No not everyone can afford it. Im fortunate enough to be able to.  Once the parts come down in price for SONY They will start to lower the price but i Guarantee you when that happens all these 360 fan boys will swear SONY lowered the price cause the sales are not good or some excuse but theyll be the first ones in line for a PS3 when its goes down in price.

I was too cheap to buy the 360, so I bought the 20GB PS3.  The PS3 saved me from buying a standalone BD player and it saved me from paying online.  I'm saving more money than the average 360 owner.

Yes, I know you're right but I'd like for some of these haters to break it down for my simple mind so I can better understand this hate for a machine that you don't have to buy when we have options right across the board. Why constantly be on a forum for a product you hate? Don't they know that this simple act actually shows that they are consumed with adoration for it but can't afford it and thus they feel some how inferior? Hey, if you feel you made a bad investment on a "box" then just trade the thing in and get the console you really yearn for, nobody gives a damn about your little life mistakes on product purchases.

I waited till all three consoles were out before I made my decision. I saw the PS3 as the best value for money, and the best investment. It may not have the games now compared to the 360, or even the Wii. By the time this gen is over however, I predict / reckon that PS3 will have more users and the best games. Developers will concentrate on 360 for the next year or two, whilst porting the game's to PS3 with more features. Once these developers see what Sony dev's have done with the hardware with games like MGS4, and system sales pick up as a result, they will shift their focus to the PS3.

Acually i believe Microsoft is still losing money on every 360 sold ... afterall - how else does their Xbox division lose $268 million if their not losing money on hardware ( they make money off every Zune, Xbox 1, Xbox / Xbox 360 / PC game sold ) ...

As for PS3's losses it started at $250 per unit ...
but now PS3 has a 65nm CELL chip in it ...
and Europe / Australia models dont have EE+ES ...
    and streamlined production ...
id estimate SONY now only loses around $182 per PS3 ? ...

compared to microsofts orignal $126 loss per 360 with a believe is down to $104 ... and the Elite will see that fall too $70 ish ...

** my numbers are simply estimates only SONY / Microsoft know the real numbers yet their ficsal reports should share insight to the situation ...

Many people want the PS3 but arent' willing or can't afford to buy it. I don't think its your place to tell people what they can and cannot say on these forums and right now there is a pretty loud outcry over the PS3's price and most people would agree Sony is making some very strange decisions.

In one year the 360 was making an estimated $25 based off of the estimations of the parts inside.  I think they're losing money because they keep buy exclusives from the PS3.  They also bought Rare.

Dude, if they aren't willing to or can't afford to buy it then that's fine but why come on it's forums constantly and complain and throw as much negativity at it as possible even going as far as lying about it's info. Look, the way I see it is if there are other consoles on the market and if the PS3 isn't to your liking then get the other console/s but to complain about the price of a product and throw hate at it doesn't make a lick of sense to me.

Take for instance me, I could complain on and on about the "box" not having a web browser or full PC like OS to install. I could complain about having to pay for a feature (online play) that's supposed to be free (all I hear people say is "well at least I can talk to people on my friend's list while I play a game"... like that's worth $250 - $300 for the consoles lifespan) I could also complain about the well known shoddy manufaturing of the console, the lack of HDMI (that's beinging only now implemented to keep up with the competition), the lack of foresight to include a next gen medium (HD DVD) for new gaming experiences, the lack of Wifi capability, the old mechanics of disc trays instead of front loaders just like every other device in the mordern era, the immense lack of a variety of gaming genres and lack of gaming subtance from a majority of it's libary. I could complain on it's forums constantly if I chose but that would be trully anal. I find the console subpar and cannot... will not be bothered with things that I feel are substandard to my standards and thus have little to no need to rampage through it's forums cause I couldn't careless about the happenings of a product I just don't really like or enjoy.

So again, if you really think the PS3 is crap and not worth salt, why do you bother to be on it's forums every day and sometimes having multiple user acounts to post on it's forums too? I just don't get it.

Woah, woah, woah... isn't $250 including a mark-up from the retailer? I'd say retailers probably buy it from Nintendo for about $200, so Ninty's only making about $50 per console.

People need to validate their purchase by taunting people who buy something different for any reason they can dream up. Most people are buying into this system wars hype and being the FREE wing of Microsoft's ad campaign. They spend 4 billion on marketing and the fanboys go do their work for them anyway.

It's basically like us bringing up the red rings of death at every available opportunity, except on the 360 forums they will ban you and on the PS3 forums they let it happen.

Well, he's right, in a way.  It cost $525 to make at launch, but due to economy of scale, the price has since dropped to $320.

I'm sure the ps3's manufacturing costs have come down quite a bit already.  They are producing millions of Blu-Ray drives for the ps3 and the standalone players, and htis is lowering the price of the drives drastically.  That's why the price of standalone players is dropping so fast and is expected to be sub-$300 by this holiday season when they were over $1000 only 5 months ago.

I haven't complained about the price or cried about wanting a price drop. I think it's funny that some PS3 lovers can't "get it" that the reason that a lot of folks don't have a PS3 has nothing to do with budget. I could go buy 10 PS3's tomorrow if I wanted to, but I don't. There's just not a good enough reason for me to get one sooner rather than later. It all comes down to personal taste, but the titles that I would play on PS3 are either too far in the future to worry about, already sitting on my shelf and playable or forthcoming on either PC or 360.

What are you laughing about? That the company you bought a product from is doing better than a company you didn't buy a product from? That's what it amounts to. Keep ignoring the fact that 360 didn't have jack going for it until Gears, and still can't beat out the PS2, Sony's LAST-GEN solution.

They are not losing money.  They have yet to recover what they lost when initially developing the systems.  They lost an assload of money developing the Xbox and Xbox 360, and they have been unable to make back that money for either system.
