So I got a new PS3 slim back in December. So far, so good. Until today. I tried to turn it on and the light went from green (which I assume means A-okay) to flashing yellow, and then finally flashing red and the unit wouldn't turn on. I tried turning it on again a few more times... Same thing. At this point I was pretty panicky and didn't know what to do so I unplugged the unit, blew as hard as I could into the vents, said a few prayers, and plugged it back in. I powered it on again. This time it WORKED. But I'm still scared out of my mind. Was this the cursed YLOD? Or at least a foreshadowing to an imminent YLOD? I thought the Slim models didn't suffer from this problem. My PS3 is only 7 months old! Has this happened to anyone else?

You shouldn't worry, just contact Sony and tell them about the problem. They will fix it because, like you said, your PS3 is only 7 months old and every PS3 has a 1 year warranty right out of the box.

there hasnt been a report on slims getting YLOD, they might, but my point was that a flashing yellow light and then a flashing red light on a slim may not be the samething as a flashing yellow ligh and then a flashing red light on a fat. A YLOD on a slim may not be the same as YLOD on a fat. You see what Im trying to say? Anyways, who knows.....................................

Hey thanks for all the responses guys. Like I said, my PS3 is working now, but I'm kind of afraid to turn it off because I'm scared it won't turn back on. But yeah, since it's under a year old, I guess Sony will have to fix/replace it if it really does die.

Just make sure you keep it cool and well ventilated. It probably just overheated and auto-off'd, although i'd contact the place you bought it firstly as they will definitely have much better customer service than Sony. Lets say you bought it at Game, tell them the issue and they might send a courier to pick it up and get it fixed.

If you play all the time non stop, and have it in the wrong type of environment, then any electronics will eventually break down. You need to have it in a ventilated area, clean it, keep the room it is in clean, because a dusty room will have all that dust killing the vents and most of all, give it some rest. Electronics need proper care.
