Hello all, I have a problem..BIG problem. For some reason now, ever since I first played NFS Hot Pursuit, my PS3 will start to lag during gameplay, the sound will start to get all garbled and then my ps3 shuts down. I read somewhere that i probably didn't have it in a well ventilated area so I put it on top of my subwoofer on its side intend of flat. It fixed the problem for about a week and then it started again but now it does it more often. It will do it even if I don't have a game playing and it will just shut down without lagging or freezing and the light blinks red. I also tried resetting it to factory settings and that didn't work. I tried letting it cool down for a day or two (hardest thing ever) but to no avail. So now I don't know what else to do. Anyone have any suggestions (serious ones only please).
Sounds like your PS3 could be overheating or that it has suffered too much damage from overheating already. Either way, it's not good news. You might want to back up your saves just in case.

no a flashing green light is the ps3 overheating. a blinking red&yellow means massive hardware failure thats what the ps3 manual says. im on my 3rd ps3 at the moment all with blinkin red lights my motherboards were toast and needed to be heatgunned(temp fix).
If you're a handy man and your gurantee has expired, try cleaning it from dust. My old ps3 was just filled with dust and had a serious heat problem. Heat problems in PCs cause them to shut down, maybe it's the same in this case.

My warranty is indeed expired but I spoke with someone at the game store and they told me to try deleting the game off the system and reinstalling it and resetting the PS3 to the default settings. If it kept doing it he said to exchange the game for a new one as the disk sometimes has corrupt data. Well I did what he said and it works!...but only for a day or two. I have to keep doing it so ima take my game back today and see if that helps if not then I might just have to get a new one..
Hello game spot people. I have a problem with my ps3 on one of my games. MLB10 The Show only one mode freezes on me. Career mode. I have my ps3 sitting on top of a dvd player. i used to have put it on the floor. but now putting it above the floor. Still doesnt work. This been happening for about 3 weeks. Also my cats like sleeping on it. would that be the problem???
My friend had a PS3 that was fine. Then his sound cut off in all his games apart from main menu. The week later his screen blanked out on him.The PS3 went off. He went to put it on and heard 3 beeps. And was greeted with a big yellow light. Yep early sign of YLOD, consider dusting your PS3 to prevent it.
