Format the External HDD to FAT 32 on your computer.

It's possible that the PS3 is incompatible with your external hard drive. Google around to see if your hard drive is on the list of compatible hard drives for the PS3

I know, i tried that. I tried using swissknife, but i have windows vista and it wont work. I cant use the disk management, because my external hdd is 500gb and it only supports under 32 gb harddrives (who uses a hdd under 32 gb??) Do i need to create partitions or something like that? I just want to keep my data

^^^ That's exactly what you need to do, I had to do the same w/ my 500G external for my ps3 to recognize it. Try to find a program called partition magic. It should do the trick.

I had problems with that seagate brandmyself...I eventually took it back and got a Western Digital drive, it was already formatted and my PS3 read it right away.
