I think exclusives are a factor, but ultimately its the overall experience, enjoyment, and satisfaction an individual makes either playing games, watching movies, handling media, or just downright remaining connected. The games audience nowadays is a vast audience and Sony needs to come up with differing applications that will engage every member of that audience to use and enjoy the PS3.
I was just wondering, everyone has opinion about how it will get to the top again(even GS). Most people are saying its because of the lack of exclusives.coolguy681
Once HD DVD starts to fail, Sony will see an even bigger lead. As all the fence sitters of HD formats will see the benefit of buying a future proof HD disk player that happens to also play games. So it's in Sony's best interest to destroy HD DVD as soon as possible. pimperjonesNothing is future-proof. If it were, we wouldn't be on the seventh generation of video game systems and entering the third generation video format. Remember, everyone said a DVD drive in the PS2 made it future-proof, too.

If it were, we wouldn't be on the seventh generation of video game systems and entering the third generation video format. Remember, everyone said a DVD drive in the PS2 made it future-proof, too. By future proof I mean 10 years the optimum life span of any technology. DVD at 480p gave you 1/6 the resolution of a films (35mm celluloid) true definition roughly 3300p for 35mm and 6600p for 70mm spherical 10 years later HD at 1080p aka HD DVD and BluRay gives you 1/3 the resolution of a films true definition and 10 from now MASTER DEFINITION HOLO DISK will finally give us the films master uncompressed resolution of 3300p for 35mm but guess what in 10 years films will no longer be shot on 35mm film and will move to an even higher resoution digital medium thus in another 10 years we will have to buy another future proof media medium. Thats life. 10 years is considered future proof in all pratical terms.
For me to enjoy my ps3 and put it on top,
1.Sony needs to completely revamp the interface, it's way too dull and boring.
2.Add multitasking
3.Increase server speed on the ps store
4.Completely overhaul psn and make it useable without yelling at the system every 5 minutes(don't give me the "it's your connection" crap)
5.Get more exclusives
6.Get more games period
7.Make a port from 360 worth buying on ps3 instead of a dumbed down version
8.Actually add stuff to the ps store regularly.
9. Get film studios to transfer data to blu-ray disks better so the picture is clearer. Crank is one of the few blu-rays that look the same as my hd-dvd collection. Come on film studios! Get on them sony!
I don't think that's too much to ask from a multi billion dollar company. If all that happens , I might enjoy my ps3 experience. These will help it rise to the top again.
I honestly believe exculsive is a major factor upon your purchase decision. Most people will buy a new console not because the amount of games that console can offer but because of one game which they are particularly fond of. For me, I want to get a ps3 because of MGS 4. Of course, there's the Blu-Ray drive which, then again, is an exculsive feature of the ps3.
Exclusives are the answers for every console's success. Online functionality, graphics, features, etc. all take a backseat to the game's content itself. Great exclusive games have always been instrumental in consoles' successes and they always will be. That is why, in my opinion, Sony really has to keep their exclusive titles (the biggest titles being MGS4 and Final Fantasy XIII, also future FF titles.) FF and MGS are two of Sony's biggest third-party exclusives and they're the reasons why people that had the PS2 cannot get away from buying the PS3. People will decide on their next-gen consoles on what they grew up with because they can't stop playing a certain series. Consoles are nothing without good games to support them.
The success of blu-ray, in my opinion, will determine its success more. If blu-ray flops, well, the PS3 can only rely on games. But if blu-ray is a success, people will probably buy a PS3 because it's cheaper than a blu-ray player, and then it goes from there...blackleech
Yup, blu-ray is also big. I read an article today on IGN (I think) that said blu-ray sales beat hd-dvd sales 2 to 1 for two months in a row. Things are looking good for blu-ray and the PS3. Another huge factor is the Europe launch. Europe is really big on Playstation and it should continue into the next-gen seeing all the preorders for the PS3.
[QUOTE="pimperjones"]No BluRay Pron will be the way, I thought we already settled on thishazuki
