There been a lot of talks and confirmation of models of PS3 being continued and discontinued and I wonder how many models schould the PS3 really have. I'm thinking 3 models

20GB with the Emotion Engine (Personally I would prefer this one since it upgrades games visuals to 720p), which schould be the cheapest

Than the PS3 we all known and love (and some cases hate) , the original 20Gb and 30GB.

One. The original 60 gb.

Further down(2-3 years) the road they could release Pink, Yellow, Silver and Slim Ps3 if they want too.

Then the developers would have to take the ps3 without any HDD into consideration when creating their game, and that would be limiting them.

No, that's not my point. I think the PS3 shouldn't even boot-up without an HDD. But I think paying for a 60 GB HDD if you plan to throw it away anyway is a waste of money. The PS3 is designed to work with any SATA 2.5' HDD, it's just plain stupid to be forced to buy the 60 GB one.

Rectification. The PS3 should be able to play Blu-ray movies even without a HDD. Only games shouldn't boot without one.

I would prefer having only one model, the 60GB. However, later down the line, they should release a slim PS3 with color variations.

That's with all consoles. MS ticked me off with the release of the Elite when I would've purchased it launch day, but I wasted money on a premium first.

Same with Sony. Just sell one version.

The Wii.....one version imagine that. And it's selling like hot cakes.

Honestly, I think they could work it with one, but really, that's all there is out, at least here in North America. We only have the 60GB out, and the 80GB, which isn't out here, if it will be at all, from what I heard is exactly the same as the 60GB, with a bigger harddrive. And not that much bigger, might I add. My PC has almost half a TB of harddrive space, and I've almost used it all. So space isn't really an issue. I called Gamestop not too long ago, asking about the 20GB harddrive they sell, and it was like $100 or something. That is complete BS. I can get a way bigger one for the same price, practically. Anyway, I'm just rambling. One could do it, but if they eventually come out with something way better upgraded, then 2 would be that max.

Sony should have stuck to one version and that would be the 20GB.  Actually they thought the 20GB would be the popular version.  The 20GB is $500 which is comaparable to the elite of $480, so if sony only released this version there wouldn't be this many PS3/Sony negative haters out there.

Most people only need the 20GB and the only problem I can think of is the HDD is too small and that can easily be upgraded for cheap.  Most people have a wire connection and not just a wifi connection, and if the person really wanted wifi than there is an accessory.  The memory slots are the least important and of course if the person wanted to buy it than they can for cheap.  All these things can be bought for less than $100 if the person really needed it because the PS3 can accept 3rd party accessories.

This would solve so many issues about the PS3.  Most people just buy 60GB because it has more, and when I was in line to get my PS3 the people around me could not tell me the 3 main differences between the 20GB and 60GB  and this indicates that since the  person doesn't know what the 60GB offers chances are he doesn't need those extras which would save him from $100.

There should be no more than 2, thats for sure.

The 60Gig, and then whatever the redesign will be, since it helps lower the cost.

I voted 5 or more just to be a jackass, but seriously one version (maybe different coulors) is good enough. I dont want to see $ony pull an M$ and give it's middle finger to everyone who has already purchased a PS3, then again I didn't have a problem with the 20gb, it's just when greedy companies come out with a redesigned product after the fact including options that should have been there in the first place- thats the heartbreaker. The rumor of the 80gb doesn't really bother me, you can swap the PS3 HDD so it doesn't really affect me.

one should be enough. the 2nd model has been abolished so because they can't sell enough. they just should stick to their plan. they won't convince anybody because they put a 80 gb harddrive in.

ok but I really wonder about the currently only available model price. Sure it offers everything one would need, but its price of $600 might scare people off and run off to cheaper console (in econ. it is assumed that people will alway buy the cheaptest product, all thing equal). My reason in 3 models is keep the premium model but to offer a model that is less scarrier.

 I hope I didn't come off as a jerk and/or troll, espically since I'm planing on buying a PS3.
