Kutaragi is  great engineering leader much like Scotty from the Enterprise.

However, he's no Captain Kirk or Picard.  The role of leadership sometimes means you have to do distasteful things with a smile.

Kutaragi was the one who made the system $599, that is PS3s main concern right now, so yes, Kutaragi was a little out of touch with reality, Stringer knows what he is doing.

He's the father of Playstation so I believe he should be free to decide everything about it.

^I'm talking about Kutaragi-sama of course.

Yeah, I agree. They should demote Howard Stringer imo, it seems it's not just ken that he's having a problem with but the whole japan division :l.

How can you say that, Sony is here to make money not to make visionary hardware, Stringer is trying to make money, Kutaragi is doing whatever he can to make PS the way HE wants it to be.

I dont think its fair to judge his actions as we dont and never will know the whole story.

the current PS3 I enjoyed is his creation. Blu-ray and Cell, I'm glad that Kutaragi just went with this no matter what. Because I dont to have my current PS3 with no blu-ray. Howard will certainly take blu-ray out, although it might make more appealing to current market now. But down the line, PS3 will lost it's advantage over XBOX 360, since XBOX 360 is easier to program and have longer online experience.

However Kutaragi also suck at third party support. I believe the tremendous success of PSone and PS2 already got to his head. I think this is just a time off for him. He will back when he needed, PS4 maybe.

You can't just treat visionaries with disdain.  Music, Art, Beauty are the domain of the visionary and everyone appreciates "mad genius" for what it is.  If some crazy musician goes without sleep for 4 days and creates a beautiful song... Why would I not be grateful to the man?

The PS3 is a work of hardware art.  It was built with love by an obsessive man to hold all the latest greatest technology on the planet.

Business isn't always about money.  To share a vision and leave a legacy is way better than to die insanely wealthy.

i think that Kutaragi is somewhat responsible for a bunch of the PS3's failings, especially in losing exclusives.

Howard Stringer has already turned around at least one business before..you can't do that if people aren't communicating with you. So yes, he was right to push Kutaragi out of the way, he certainly couldn't just fire him (unwritten rule of Japan businesses) and probably shouldn't have in any case so his was the right decision.

No...not really, since Stringer came aboard they've been working towards increasing profitability and frankly hes been doing a good job. One of his goals to make the business overall more profitable is to break down "silos" as he calls them. Essentially none of the divisions communicate effectively and so while theres some real hit items from Sony this lack of communication often ends up with two groups doing the same thing causing competition between Sony's products, thats not healthy and Stringer knows that. Another thing hes focused on is getting the usability and software up to par with their great hardware design and Sony has been making ground there as well.

look, regardless of what happens over the PS3, Ken did some things that are hurting sony's electronics divison pretty bad right now. The Playstation is seriously lagging behind in sales, the games we were promised keep getting delayed, and we keep losing exclusives. I don't care who fixes these problems, but someone has to. Kutaragi didn't, lets see if stringer can. and yeah, the 600 price point is killing sony.

There's two sides of every story.

People must not forget that they were both candidates to the same post as head of Sony, Howard because he made Sony Pictures the biggest movie studio in North America (financially) and increased BGM's growth rate while Ken was the man behind Sony's most successful product (even bigger than Walkman).

The investors have said a lot bad about Howard lately and called him a bad choice, so it was a rather smart move of him to get rid of his biggest competitor. We should keep in mind that though Sony is doing better financially it's  not only because of him, Ken was the man behind re-conquering the TV market with BRAVIA and the the mobile phone sales got nothing to do with Horward either.

People should look into things before opening their mouths.

Kutaragi was the one who made the system $599, that is PS3s main concern right now, so yes, Kutaragi was a little out of touch with reality, Stringer knows what he is doing.chembro84

Ken was the one who called for a price cut in Japan.
iunnoo....look at all the good thats come to the ps3 since his removalMiguel16

Nothing, all initiatives were started by Ken.

It's also Ken who gathered all game studios under SCE-WW and made Phil the head CEO.

All Howard has done is to make Kaz the head of SCEI (Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiidge Raaaaaaaacer).

Im not the CEO of Sony, and I dont know any of the individuals involved with this...nor do I really know whats going on aside from what you can read in the news...

I dont think its fair to judge his actions as we dont and never will know the whole story.

If he's making marketing decisions that aren't his to make...without permission, then yeah he shouldn't be in that place. Plus he's a big part of Sony's negative image lately...

I agree, but there does come a time where you need a new face to take over. Yes Kutaragi is the reason why Playstation was created, but he may be loosing his touch...

Good for business or not I'm happy Kutaragi went high end. I love my PS3 and feel its the only true nextgen machine on the market.  Secondly Kutaragi has always had a good eye for the future.  I guess only the next few years will tell if he was right or not.

I admire him for putting a ton of work into designing all the Playstation consoles yet, every single one of which I have enjoyed immensly, however, if what Howard Stringer says is true, then he deserved it.

If you are in a higher-up position, you don't suddenly decide to do things without telling the CEO, especially when it comes to one of the most profitable sections of the company.
