on the he webpage with the router settings. there is source ip and destination ip under the firewall tab. is source ip the ip that the router has assigned to me and the destination ip is the actual ip from the isp or is the router's ip?
my ip is random all the time and i read somewhere to get a static ip you have to call your isp and it cost extra? i need to know about my thread question and cant i port forward from the firewall tab rather than virtual server? because firewall way you can enter it for possible ip's from a to b. ie...192.168.0.1 to 192.168.0.15 this way you dont have to keep iputting the same commands over again. i need feedback before i proceed, thanks
well it mentioned that i should choose an ip that no other computer will use or will result in neither the two with the same ip to connect to the internet. my dhcp server(isp server that hands out the random ip's to their clients). what if the dhcp gives the address i made static to someone else?
yah an ip such as 192.168.1.15 (assuming you have a linksys router) thats what you chose (when you set up a static ip for one computer, you should do it TO ALL DEVICES connected to that router) that way you won't have the problem of another computer on your router using the same IP address
i dont understand when you mean by all devices, do what? portforward it? wait, are you saying that since im on a router i can set a static ip behind the router where no one other than the 2comp network here can access? finaly, it is safe to static ip on broadband dsl which always random the ip handouts and my static ip should be 192.168.0.1etc? not the actual which is similar to 68.45.653.3etc?
ok maybe i should mention that during the day to about 2-3am i get maybe 1mb if im lucky...but after 2-3 boom 6mb. is the router causing the speed drop? and why only during the mentioned hours? so i do still need to port forward right? i have dsl 6mb dlink router
ok now im feeling really frustrated. I did the dmz thing and my dl is still 10-15kb at this time...Why must I always wait until 2am to get a decent connection?? I mean, with only 2computers in the house with a 6mb line, the router should split 3 and 3 but its not. I mean even if my sis would be downloading music, could she possibly use the 5.9mb every second of the day? i dont think so and this is ^%#%^#^% me off. why cant this stupid router do its simple job!? is there a way to check how many computers are really connected to the line? maybe my sis is hoggin the line with maybe another comp in her room?
6mb ? thats some fast dsl.. u sure thats dsl? my cable company is only dishing out 700kbps download here lol and like 300kbps upload lol
and static ip has nothing to do with port forwarding, but you do need to have a static ip to port forward i was just wondering if you HAD set up a static ip then because if you had with your computer or something you'd have to do the same for your ps3(or you should do it to your ps3)

That sound more like cable internet to me than DSL.
well its bell sympatical so I dont know other than that....and it is 6mb though. expanded, there is no tutorial on how to static ip for ps3....only for windows and xbox360
well its the same procedure.. when you set up a network setting on your ps3 scan for your router then instead of doing automatic do manual Now http://www.portforward.com/networking/static-xp.htm go there do steps 1 to 4 then skip to step 9
EDIT: WARNING DO NOT COPY THE NUMBERS GIVEN ON THE WEBSITE(THE PICTURE), USE THE NUMBERS YOU GOT FROM STEPS 1-4 YOUR DNS IS NOT THE SAME AS THE PICTURE
You should notice that it looks similar to the PS3 screen you have right now enter the ip you wish to use (in preference i like 192.168.1.8 since i like the number 8) then enter the information given to you from steps 1-4
after entering those the ps3 asks you about proxy click Do NoT Use and something else also, put Do Not Use and it should prompt you to save settings, then test.. it should work :)
I forgot to mention that i have to unplug the ethernet from laptop to ps3 everytime, so by the time i get all the information from the laptop, wont the new ip settings kick in because of a new connection? basically how do i use command prompt on ps3?
oo..well if your gonna set a static ip with your laptop you must too for your ps3.. so i suggest doing this first on your laptop
to start with your laptop just follow the directions in that link i gave to you. and if you finish, and your browser doesn't show anything.. just remove all the numbers in the TCP/IP you haveentered(THIS IS OFCOURSE ASSUMING THATTCP/IP THING WAS BLANKTO START)and you should have internet
hey i have completed from creating a static ip, opening ports for playstation network (that is the right one right?), and upnp is now available. so does this mean i should be getting at least half of 6mb? ps should i open the ports for cod4 shown on that site or is that for pc?
i believe cod4 is for pc but there are ports the ps3 version uses i'm not sure on the numbers.. i heard they fixed it though so no need to actually port forward.. and congrats.. you should be getting good interwebs quality if you really are getting 6mbps.. >_>..
=) why is it so hard to believe that bell sympatico supplys 6mb?? i check the speed test and it said 6127kbs. question, if a comp and ps3(with port forward) were on at same time, say comp is streaming video, chat,etc will the ps3 get around 3mb which half or what?
Okay so lets get this dorted. 1. Just becuasr the connection says a speed that doesnt mean thats what you get. 2. If you're getting highspeed at one time of day and not in the others you need to check your bandiwdth useage and call your ISP to ask about the exchanges quality. 3. DMZ is all you need. 4. DMZ is all you need. Anyone who says otherwise is a fool. 5. If others are using the network, especially with downloading, your link WILL be useless. Downloading content via p2p will decimate every last byte the link has. Dont let them use the computers while you're online. Simple as that. Only other option is to get another line.
so there is absalutly no way of assigning limit speed to each computer so that speed is distributed evenly at any given time? ie comp 1 can only reach a maximum of 1mb and 2 etc... or is this too good to be true?
ps i just found out that it is possible but it wont work for me because i wont be able to install a program on my sis computer!
do i set the dmz ip to the same ip I use to manually set up the internet connection on the PS3? Thanks.

Once you assign a IP address to the PS3, you input that same IP address into the router's DMZ. Or, with some newer routers, you can use the PS3's MAC address.
