It makes sense. It is easy to predict. Sony has already announced they would lower the price of Blu ray players to $300. It would be inevitable for them to reduce the PS3 as well since it is a Blu Ray player, and probably the most competitive in the market right now. I would also predict a huge decrease in HDTV's, led by Sony (They pretty much control the TV market).
I predict that the PS3 will be impossible to find this XMAS, almost guaranteed. Think about it. Why? There's going to be a huge change this XMAS. Everyone is going to go HD. I can almost guarantee it. That's why I'm waiting to get my HDTV then.
@ $600 they would be completely irrelevant. $500 is still going to be an ugly price this Christmas. They have to do this to have any chance to survive though. It's going to cost Sony a ton of money.

Being realistic isn't being a troll... His is a very valid opinion on Sony's financial status and how it could possibly influence a price drop out of need to compete.
 Why would you want Sony to put themselves further in the red by dropping the price so early in the game. Just so they can please all the people that continue to complain about the price as it stands right now. I'm sorry but I don't see a price drop happening at-least for another full year. There already losing alot of money now on each system sold, and you expect them to lose even more. That's completely being unrealistic.

there alot of rumors goin around abotu a new PSP i woudltn doubt oen coming soon. as for teh price drop, i bet it will happen if microsoft officailly announces there new xbox 360. if that happens expect a PS3 price drop rigth around the time the new 360 system comes out.
its not gonna happen that fast, they will keep it at the current price for awhile so they can earn money off of it finally, no point in dropin the price allready and keep takein a lose when they can keep teh price and recoup

a $100 price drop is crazy -- it would make SONY appear weak and scared ...
 a $25 to $474 / $574 price drop when the new $479 360 comes out however is likly ...   followed by another $25 before christmas - to make PS3 $449 / $549 this holiday season ...
 If the Yen continues to become stronger and stronger i can see SONY increasing these price drops by $5 - $10 each ...
 Overall i see that by holiday season 2008 PS3 will cost $379 - $399 / $479 - $499 ... such a price drop would allow PS3 to directly compete with the 360 which i see dropping to $Discontinued(core) / $299 (premium) / $369 (Zepher) ... Microsoft after suffering such losses on the origanal Xbox imo will only drop the price of 360 to counter-attack PS3 price drops and to keep themselves as a cheaper alternative ...
 Wii -- i see Wii by holiday 2008 at $199 and staying their ... still hugly cheaper than competitors ...
