Maybe I'm old faashioned, but I've always thought that the explanations of why a game earned such a score were more important than an (arguably) subjective number.
Perfect example: Motorstorm earned a 7.9 here at GS, yet IGN rated it a full point higher at 8.9. However, the two reviews were very similar: they both praised the beautiful graphics, engaging racing experience and exciting online component, while criticizing the lack of features.
What is more important to you? The review score, or the content?
Really good point. it shows that in reality the "true score" probably is the AVERAGE (*cough* go to gamerankings *cough*). No one is arguing with the criticisms...just the arbitrary number. It's clear that what matters is what you think of the actual review. You know whether or not online or single player means more to you and you yourself know what graphics means to you, etc. In my opinion, reading the reviews, Gamespot is probably closer to the real review score than IGN, but many will disagree. I haven't played yet, but from the reviews, and my preferences, I would have scored it an 8.0.
