The 80GB version is a game pack IIRC, so why they would drop its price that soon?
SONY rolls a40GB PS3 into the market to increase its user base as quickly as possible, but there's no point that they should lower the price of 60GB and 80GB. The previous 20GB's failure is more due to the higher price and way too limited HD size. Buyers don't consider the $499 20GB a worthy investment. But a $399 40GB PS3 will be a total different story.
i think they discontinued the 60 gigKeasy4
They have, however, that doent mean that there are not still a ton of them out there. At least where I live you can still pick up a 60 no problem.

Actually, Sony's "factory" are out of the 60 GB models, stores though still have them but in limited quantities. The only reason this price drop thread is made is because of the analyst predictions. They said the 80 GB might get a price drop to $499 which in turn got a few people thinking once everyone knew about the 40 GB model being only $399, what's going to happen to the remaining 60 GB models? Think about it... if the 80 GB model is supposedly going to drop this holiday season to $499 and the 40 GB model is coming soon at a price point of $399, shouldn't Sony drop the price of the 60 GB model as well? It doesn't make much sense to have the 80 GB and 60 GB models to be both priced at $499 nor is it wise to price the 60 GB with the 40 GB model at $399. Where is the middle ground for the 60 GB model... $459 maybe. No one posting so far takes any of what the creator of this thread is saying and probably won't ponder on what I said either. The next post after mine will probably say, " What's the confusion of the price drop, 80 GB is $599 and 60 GB is $499 and the 40 GB is $399." There is the rumor going around that the 80 GB model is going to drop it's price because Sony wants to sell the systems like hotcakes this holiday season along with the new cheaper 40 GB models. If this is true, what's going to happen to the 60 GB models price point? If it stays the same as the 80 GB model, the 60 GB models will stay on store shelve forever.
the new 40GB will probably be $399, it will have only 2 usb slots, have no memory card slots (anyone use these? i didnt think so), and use wifi and software emulation for Ps2 games. they may drop the 80gb and 60 gb down $50-100 too, most likely.ajefferismI use the memory card slots, but that's because I have a Sony Cybershot camera. (I could just hook my USB cord up from the camera to the PS3 though ;))
I think Sony is definitely waiting for the holiday season to kick in to drop the prices again.
If the PS3 cost $299 I would probably buy one.
Now if it cost $199 I would buy it in a heartbeat (no questions asked).

$399 is not a bad price drop for a console that has only been on the market for less than a year. It's kinda sad to see people wanting an Item that is way ahead of the times right now to be extremely cheap. Would you rather pay $599 or $399 for a console that will be having tons of games this holiday season and well after plus have a ton of features and be at a price that Bluray players are at right now when your actually get a combo gaming system. I'm sure sony is hurting with every console they sell as I know they aren't making a profit right now but losing money with each one. Sony's being nice and continually bites the bullet with each price drop they throw at us in order for more people to buy it. Asking for the ultra cheap $399 40 GB model to be priced at $299 or even $199 is asking way too little for a high powered console that has only lived for less than a year now. I remember the PS2 being priced at $299 and people cried that it should be $99 because people are just so damn cheap now a days. You spend more money on games than a console now a days... $399 for the 40 GB model is not a bad price at all and I believe it is a great deal, I spent $599 on mine so be happy it's droping it's price by about $200.
very interesting indeed actually... maybe I'll bring that up with the guys at hotspot.
Maybe it will be like this:
40 GB- $399
80 GB- $499
60 GB- $459
Maybe...

If there is a price drop for every SKU than I think this is porbably how it will work.
If The price of the PS3 models drop like the 80 gb to 499 (Rumor) and the new 40 gb at 399 (rumor which is most likly true) what will the price of the 60 gb model be (Because it still exists in the stores its just not manufactured any more)???? Could the 60 gb go to 399 and the 40 gb be at 299?Southpole92i highly doubt they will drop the price of the 60 again if its not in production... just a guess though...

my guess...
80GB - 499.99
60GB - 449.99
40GB - 399.99
stores would get rid of the 60gb's by selling them at $450, and if there is any 20gb's left i think those would go for $250 or less.......it's really not hard to figure out these price ranges
I doubt Sony will drop the price of the 60GB PS3 since it's discontinued. I'd say it'll most likely be the stores that still carry a limited quantity of 60GB PS3s that will lower the price.

Unless Sony gives permission, retail stores cannot change the price on their own. Why? It works like this. Both Sony and the retailer have to make a profit. Going cheaper will lose Sony money, and Sony truly doesn't want that.
