Anyone here have a problem finishing games these days? Too many games, busy, school, families?

I used to be able to finish any game I played, but now a days it seems like I rarely finish a game that I start before I get bored, hyped for an upcoming game, or maybe stop playing for a bit and come back only to realize I forgot what's going on in the game and then my interest goes away almost completely and I sell for newer games. This is probably due to school and being in a relationship for a while now, but I don't think it's the reason for all of it.

Recently I bought

Watch Dogs - Bored/ halfway through

Killzone Shadow.. - Bored/ same

God Of War Ascension - Bored in the beginning

Battlefield 4 - Bored

NBA 2k14 - rarely play (don't think you can finish a sports game?)

Dark Souls - Rage lol

Last game I finished I think was GTA 5 took around a month and a half..

Especially with Destiny coming out next month I'm weary of justifying a purchase :( Anyone else have or had this problem now or in the past? If so what did you do? or any advice is cool thanks :)

I never finish games. I did complete singularity lol I don't know why out of all my games that one made me finish it. I used to finish games all the time back on nes and snes when it only took a few hours.

I usually finish most of the games I buy... unless I get bored of it or it starts to frustrate me. Then I'll either return it or delete it.

I have only finished half of the games that I bought for the PS4. I have 12 retail games. Still working on the other 6.

Back in the 8bit and 16bit era I finished 75 percent of the games. Less time for gaming now.

I finish every game I start, even if it's not super compelling; however, if you do some simple research in advance, you can figure out which games you'll enjoy before you buy them and avoid unfinishable/unbearable duds altogether.

I very rarely don't finish playing a game but you just reminded how tedious Watch Dogs can get. I especially hated a mission near the end where you have to escape from the cops with your sister and nephew and you seemingly have to take a very specific route to escape the cops. Maybe it was just me but I really hated that.

This summer has been really bad for finishing games. No time, always out partying and enjoying the weather plus work.

When the cold weather hits around early winter, I finish like 2-3 games a month.

All the games you mentioned are good, but:

  1. GTA5- at end of day you are just doing mindless repetitive quests or play free mode/ tdm online. With that being said, even the hackerific Combat Arms is a better shooter than GTA online.
  2. Most games you mentioned are not competitive
  3. A lot of the games you mentioned, get spoonfed
  4. Most of the games you listed do not have replay value exceeding 6 months

So yep case closed. Why are you bored? It's very simple really. You buy boring games. Just because its mainstream doesn't mean its worth the $60 price tag. I mean critics give FF13 and COD games 10s when we both know FF13 was the worst entry into the series and COD is just fodder. GTA3-5 has always been the victim of resorting to quest hunting rpg/mmo like gameplay, but reviewers NEVER talk about that. Start buying games based on personal references and community feedback instead of professional reviews. Usually, I'd say the gamer who played the game for a week straight is more in touch than the reviewer who played a game for 5 hrs spread out over 5 days. You should try playing games that um actually have substance and is not just another 8hr campaign:

  1. COD, Team Fortress 2, Counter Strike
  2. MMOs aka WOW, TERA, DCUO, Planetside 2
  3. MOBAs aka LOL, DOTA 2
  4. SCV, Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat
  5. Terraria, Minecraft
  6. Pokemon (iunno apparently pikachu addicting)

I made a list to help me finish my games and I don't buy any more till I am done. Yes it does take more effort once you have beat so many games to get back into them. Currently I finished black list and am now playing arkham city.

I have to many family commitments to invest time into many games but i do buy them lol I like to collect games, but if the game i'm playing does not grab me, i pretty much cannot keep playing, WatchDogs for example, I played up until I got into a car I drove for a few minutes, realized how crap the car controls were for me, because i don't want to have a challenge just driving a car when that's half the game, i put it down and have never touched it again, I did go round the city and realized it was bland and how my character was bland and yet everyone in the world seemed to be a weirdo or a criminal.

every game, even components of a game (like driving in watch dogs or gta) have e learning curve, i try to stick with games until i pass that learning curve but sometimes i quit playing even before that if the game does not appeal to me...

on the other hand, i more or less complete every game that i buy (not counting the psn plus ones), since i've bought a ps4 8 months ago i have completed the sp of ac4, bf4, cod: ghosts, tomb raider, infamous: ss, killzone: shodowfall, watch dogs, the last of us, sniper elite 3, wolfenstein: new order and child of light...

I sympathize. I've seriously restarted Fallout: New Vegas about 5 times due to PS3's breaking, breaking up with the bf that had the PS3, accidentally deleting my save data. I just want to finish the dang game! I have noticed that a lot of games these days are pretty long, too. Depending on if you do side quests and what not, some games can be 80+ hours. Since I started gaming in 2004 or so, I think I've only finished around 17 games. But some games don't really have an ending like Skyrim (main quest can be finished, but there is no "ending"), Animal Crossing, Tomodachi Life, etc. Real life gets in the way of gaming far too often.

I find that I get bored really easily, not just with video games but with my crafts and stuff. I really have to force myself to play just one or two games until they're finished, then move on. It's all about how much you want to finish the game and how well you can make yourself concentrate on it.

I used to squeeze the juice out of videogames when I was younger. Now, at age 29, it is extremely rare for me to finish any videogame campaign mode. I prefer to stick to the multiplayer mode and play only for fun, rather than for achievement. In other words, shorter play sessions where winning or losing is irrelevant.
