I just bought a hdtv and got some hdmi cables with it. I had my regular (red, white, yellow) cables hooked up so i could see what i was doing and the hdmi cables hooked up and the ps3 detected the hdmi cables and asked if I wanted to use them so I hit yes and the screen never displayed any picture. Before doing that I had gone to the display settings and tried to switch it over to hdmi from that to and the screen did the same thing. If anybody could help I'd appreciate it.

This may be of help. I change my cables from time to time from composite to HDMI and I found that doing what could be considered a hot boot is use the power button on the front of the console to turn the system on but instead of releasing the power button rite away I hold it until the second beep and at that point I release it. This will allow the PS3 to select the correct conection on it's own (it's never failed so far).

Does your tv have different video modes. On my tv I have to push input. It changes the input from composite to HDMI and other input cables. Hope this helps.

Yeah, that sounds like the problem. My TV is the same way. Seeing as the PS3 is detecting the HDMI, switch the input over to HDMI. I am not sure if the PS3 is a little sensitive or not but it seems like about every 4-5 days mine has to re-detect HDMI and have me reselect it as the output I want to use when I start it up. anyone else ?

Yeah it has 2 av modes, a component and 2 hdmi modes and after changing the settings to hdmi on the ps3 i switched it over to hdmi 1 (the one i had the cable connected to) and the screen had a bunch of lines and it'd flash green and pink until it just switched back to the regular av cable mode. I hadn't tried holding down the power button yet so I'll have to do that. Thanks for all the help.

Yeah try holding the powerbutton down on the PS3. You said it switched back to the regular av cable mode, is that still hoooked up? I'd unplug those. Just use the HDMI, make sure your TV is set to HDMI, and when you turn on the power on the PS3 hold the button down.

Also, some TV's have problems with the HDMI on PS3. My 42" LCD didn't like the PS3 HDMI output at all, and also my HD TIVO cable box, but is fine with other devices.
