Mine sometimes does this, if you put a disk in, turn it on then rapidly press eject again and again then the disk comes out and my ps3 boots up normally. Might be worth tranfering your files and settings over to a new ps3!

They'd give me a non-BC PS3. :( And getting it repaired costs money anyway. :(

mine did the same back in Nov. 2011, i took it to someone who said he could fix it for $40, so i gave it a try and he took it COMPLETELY apart to get to the "heatsink" of which he claimed to reset using a heat gun and reapply some gel...put it back together all of which took close to 2 hours? long story short, he fixed it and it worked for about 3 days before it wouldn't start up again...best advice is to replace with another system! edit: mine was an orig. fat PS3 60 gig from system launch date, called Sony and they offered a refurbished 120 gig Slim with no warranty...i'm thinking of buying a new one from BestBuy with a 2-3 year service replacement plan, perhaps sometime soon?

Same dilemma happened to me and I got it fixed for $20 in two days. I believe the problem was a certain connection in the back left corner by the intake fan that needed soldering, that and a dust build up. I had the maintainence dude fix it after I described the symptoms from what I had learned on a 4 segment step by step youtube post. Hopefully it wil be an easy fix for you, and keep a fan on that hot biatch while its on. Good luck to you.

Either: 1. watch youtube fixes and do it yourself or pay someone to fix it then back everything up then play till it fails for good 2. just lose the data that is on there now and replace

If it's still in warranty, take it back and get a replacement. If it's not, then it's time to pay your wallet a visit.

Red light flashing?

Had this problem once...

Turn of console, take out the hard drive, put the HDD back in, turn on console.

The first thing to try is allowing ample time to cool off. Then, you should press the poswer button for a few seconds which should activate a manual reset. If none of this works, call Sony and explain that you want to keep a backward compatible model. It should cost in the range of $120 if it's out of warranty. I wouldn't gamble with another party trying to fix it.

For the record, I once got water in my PS3 (don't ask) and it went down for a while. I dried the insides (applying warm air to the vents) and it was working perfect. Its really a case by case scenario.
