It keeps telling me "You have been disconnected to the access point". I have a Linksys router that I also use with my 360. I am wondering if I am doing something wrong? The signal strength is at 100%. Thanks to anyone and everyone that can help me with this.

I too am having the same problem. Its totally random, and it happens frequently. Checking the network settings, I can see it disconnect completely from the router, and a minute later it will reconnect and establish an IP. then a minute or two later it disconnects. When I am connected my signal strength is 95-100%. My xbox360 is sitting right next to it, and it works with no issues what so ever.... anyone ?

i've been having the same issue as well...always the "disconnected from the access point" message. My signal strength is much lower though...like 35-40%, but my laptop works fine in the same area (in my basement). If you're having the problem with it saying it has 90-100%, we're likely having the same problem I think. I am going to try Sony or Best Buy, because I got the in-store warranty...

So I spoke with PS3 tech support and what I'm getting is that I need a newer router that supports b/g mixed mode. I have an older netgear router that only supports 802.11b. The tech told me that he hasnt seen this issue with the ps3 but more so with psp. Supposedly the psp and ps3 handle wireless networking the same way. They actually use both the b and g frequencies for some kind of redunancy and traffic control. The tech explained it to me as if it was a 2 lane highway, the ps3/psp will choose the fastest lane to travel in, and since i only have one it drops... I don't know if this is the case for sure, I plan on borrowing a friends router that does both b/g and see if this really is the case. But even if it is, I will end up going wired as I cannot justify upgrading my network just to use this function of the PS3, when my other two gaming systems (xbox36 and Wii) work fine with it. I have to say that the more I look at the PS3, the more I feel that playstation missed the mark. I know I still need to give it some time, but so far I havent been impressed. The moment I opened the box I felt like xbox360 had it beat, no headset and a weak little composite video cable (and I purchased the 60gb model). Now this wireless crap....

all you need to do is set up your security wireless for your PS3. I had the same problem until i went and secured the wirless connection on my router and used WEP for security in my PS3. The router security is also WEP. Go to your router and secure your wireless connection. It also will keep people off of your network. If you already has secured it, just get the encryption key and put it in your PS3.

Nope, I've tried with and without WEP. That has nothing to do with it.

Don't buy what Sony Tech Support told you. What kind of router are you using?

I had a really tough time getting the PS3 to work wirelessly... my signal strengt was around 65%. Then I lost the 360's connection...I finally got the PS3 online and I had to manually connect the 360 with a different IP address then was originally used. Now I lose the PS3 connection every once in a while even when I'm just playing a demo or single player campaign in Resistance.... Try searching these forums. People gave me really good advice on getting them both hooked-up. (i'm a layman so trying to remember what they said wouldn't be very helpfull)

- i had complications trying to get connected to the psn with my linksys wireless router also, and my 360 was working fine with it...what i had to do was install an update avail. for my router and reset some codes + transfer the new info. to the 360 & the ps3 and both systems are working properly.

- i called linksys and they were very helpful...but there was a very long wait getting through to them!
here's the # 1 (800) 326-7114...hope that helps?

I can't believe you bought well over $1k on the newest gaming machines but you don't want to spend $40 to more than quadruple your wireless connection speed.

I got mine fixed. I just had to change my routers channel. Thanks for the help though. I did try calling Linksys before, and it was a mess. I couldn't understand them, and I felt dumb because I had to keep saying "excuse me". Once I finally was able to get someone I could understand....they had no idea what to do, and told me to call Sony. So I call Sony, and they helped a lot. But nothing they said worked. So luckily my buddy knew what to do, and it has only disconnecting one time since. I am at 100% connection too.

why do i need to quadruple my wireless connection speed? the 802.11b speed is faster than my dsl connection so what would getting a faster wireless network offer me? That's just money I dont need to spend. I may have spent well over $1000 in gaming machines, but I don't just throw my money away. My router has been a good investment because it was priced right and has never been a problem for my network. In my mind the only reason I would upgrade my router would be for more features (that would be useful on my network) or if my router broke. That would be justified. But I dont consider this a  reason.., I may upgrade later, but I dont want to be forced to do it. And who knows that this would even correct the problem.

Some linksys routers require disabling your SSID Broadcast because the ps3 has some flaw in it's wireless scanning where it would keep updating and disconnecting for no apparent reason. I recommend enabling DMZ on your ps3's ip, disabling SSID Broadcast, check your wifi channel and change it (1 tends to be the most susceptible to 2.4ghz cordless phones), and finally check to make sure your router doesn't have a mac filter enabled.

no, i don't know if it would fix your problem, but I do strongly believe it would improve your online gaming experience in general. Not only does 11g work faster, but it reaches farther and is more stable. I'm actually REALLY surprised you can run your other games reliably on 11b. Even with g, i notice the occasional glitch. Besides, it makes a world of difference on my laptops, so the fact that ps3 can use my existing 11g is just icing.

Yes believe it or not but the xbox360 runs perfect on live with every game I play, and the Wii doesnt really have any online enabled games, but the trial internet browser works with no hiccups as well. Who knows , I may end up upgrading, but I just feel like venting. Like I said, so far my initial experience with the PS3 have not gone as smooth as the xbox360 or wii (and I was an early adopted for both these machines as well). I'm going to try a few more things before giving up. Then i'll decide whether I want to save money and just go wired (with the hassle of rewiring my livingroom/bedroom) or forking out more money for a new router.
