I got my white ceramic psp on monday, and wasnt able to update the firmware straight away because my internet wasnt working for a few days.

Anyway i tried it today, and it downloaded fine, but when i went to install it it says "you cannot install this update cause your battery power is low" ... despite the fact that i had my AC adapter plugged in and was charging. So i tried this again once it had charged up to 2 bars and it said the same thing.

Now comes the troubling part....

After it wouldnt install it i thought "i'll cancell the installation for now....

So it asked me if i wanted to cancell and i said yes... Then it took me back to the screen where it says Update 3.30 and says "Start" Underneath it and the console had frozen. No keys would respond to me.... So i had to hold down the power button to switch it off cause just flicking it wouldnt work.

When i restarted the console everything worked fine again besides the fact that it automatically booted the UMD game i had in the console without me telling it to and i'm not used to it doing that automatically....

When i tried to install the update again, it treated it as if i'd never downloaded it before and proceeded to download the whole update all over again to have the same result as before.

Anyone know whats going on here? I know this may sound dumb, but do i have to wait for the battery to fully charge and then unplug the AC adapter?

I've read in a lot of places that it is better to wait some time before updating the new firmwares, just in case there are problems or bugs... I'm waiting for mine also...

needs to be at least 50% charged.. Thats normal.. It's so during the upgrade your system will be less likly to shut of.  If it does, it will brick it.

what firmware do you currently have on your PSP... I know some people with custom firmware on their psp couldn't update and had to go though a whole messed up process just to get the update.

not if it's not a custom firmware issue and more of a battery issue, to be safe just fully charge your PSP plug it into an ac outlet and then do the update.

also which update are you using Euro, ***, or US and where is you PSP from Euro, or ***?

Its a Australian PSP so probably a European one.

It came preinstalled with V2.71

Yeah, the update software is designed to only let you update if a certain amount of power is detected on the battery. The only problem is the software hasnt been coded so that if it detects a AC Adapter that it can bypass this. Oh well, no program is perfect. That precaution is a good one tho to prevent the system stuffing up tho.

I figured it out, i just needed to fully charge the battery and then it worked fine. About the downloaded update i was looking in teh wrong place for it.

yeah i realise that but even when you have that turned on it wont auto boot a UMD after the first time it does it if you press the home button and use the XMB then switch it off while its on that screen. It will boot next time to what you were doing last. It only did that after the failed firmware attempt. Doesnt matter anymore its working now.. The update software just isnt programmed to take into account AC Adapters so you must have a charged battery to do it regardless.

Just charge it to full, and keep it plugged in, then update, it will work for sure.
