I've been seeing alot of YLOD and RLOD (?) posts here recently... and I just got a used bc 80gb a few weeks ago I would be very sad if my ps3 crapped out on my already.

so im asking you guys, what is the best way to care for your ps3?

I never use the back switch really, I leave it on standby all the time..

The most it'll be on is like 8 hours in a row prolly...

also I'm thinking about getting a new 320 or 500 gb HD for it... would getting a 720 rpm drive (or whatever the measurement name is) be a bad idea? I heard they help the ps3 load faster, but would it make it overheat or anything like that?

Just give it a decent amount of space, if you really don't have the space buy a cooling fan, theyre cheap!

Just keep it in a well ventilated area (not inside a shelf) and vacuum the dust out every once in awhile (they say be careful not to touch the ps3 with the vac extension if it is metal, don't know if it's true though)

1. Give it alot of space, about 5 inches away from anything. So don't put it in a cramped media unit. 2. Dust it regulary, and clean the vents once a week. 3. Keep smoke and pet hairs away from the console 4. Don't over use the PS3. Don't play longer than 2 hours at once. 5. Do not leave it on standby, always switch it off at the back and then at the power socker 6. Don't over load your memory, always clear it out regulary with stuff you do not need Do all that and it will be fine, worked for me for 2 years.

All the other stuff is obvious

I call shenanigans on some of those points.

5. You should always leave it in standby, unless you won't be using it for an extended period of time.

6. How full your hard drive is makes no difference. It's not going to hurt your console if the hard drive is full. It's not even going to hurt the hard drive, that's what it's for. :P

Yeah I thought standby was good. But yeah I have it cramped right next to my seldom used 360 and all my games so I will clear out some space.

4. Is bs, I have a launch 60 gig and I play mine a lot more than 2 hrs at a time.

Anyways DO NOT put it on carpet. Never ever should you put your system on carpet. It's bad ventilation, more dust, and an increased chance to get kicked.

1. Good advice

2.Great advice (personally I clean it every couple of days)

3. Best advice

4. Bad advice. Mine is on pretty much all day every day (live in a house with 2 other people and it is connected to a media server) Had it for over a year now and still works fine.

5.Worse Advice. Only use the switch when it is going to be unused for more than a few days or if your are more worried about a few cents of power that a 300$ electronic.

6.Maybe.. It does not affect the operation of the system in any way it just sucks to go to downloadsomething and not be able to do it cause the drive is full.

Im going to go ahead and add a 7.

7. Backup your movie/tv purchases to a flash drive, you cannot redownload them if lost.

Just keep it clean and give it plenty of space. My 60 gig was on 24/7 for over two years without a single problem (when not in use it was F@H). Now I shut it down to stand-by ever so often. This is from my personal experience.
