imo all this 3D gimmick can only bring harm. it's yet another step added to the development process and let me tell you, game developing is a fricken marathon of work as it is, it's no walk in the park.
Having to dedicate development time and effort to implement 3D means they have to cut work and spenses elsewhere, and there's where the overall quality will suffer, also lets not forget that it will take more processing power to render the 3D stuff, which means that most likely the overall resolution and texture quality will suffer as well.
Of course KZ3 may turn out good in the end, but that's because guerrilla is a first party Sony studio, they have money to burn, but what about smaller studios? I foresee many crappy 3D games in the future, just because everyone will want to get into the gimmickry bandwagon, but since they don't have the kind of resources big studios have they'll end up sacrificing stuff that actually maters just to have stuff "popping out" of the screen...
A perfect example of that is that Invicible tiger game on the psn, you take the 3D gimmick out and what you're left with is a bland, unimaginative crapy game.
