Ive recently noticed that when I press the R2 button, a small 'squelch' noise comes out. Had the controller for about 8 months now. So is this just a sign of an old and dieing controller, or is it just something that I shouldn't worry about?

I got a new one a few months ago and it does that now too. Maybe because it's getting used all the time, so it will wear down with age, so, until it actually stops working, or gets jamned, then buy a new controller. But it's nothing serious!

put a drop of WD-40 in there and that should fix the problem. your controller is not deteriorating. you pressing the R2 button is only going to make it easier to press down as long as its greased.

Are you crazy!? What if it reacts with one of the components inside the controller..

It wouldn't, WD-40 is very unreactive. I ould reccommend the WD-40, just a little spray near where the hinge is. But a squelch noise, I've never heard of that problem.

if that doesnt work, just take apart your dual shock 3 and grease up the moving parts. ive taken mine apart before and its real easy to put back together. no warranty seal to be broken. just dont snap off some platic part. i remember there was a delicate plastic part.

If it's not broken, don't fix it. There's no point taking a working controller apart, just leave well enough alone.

Just turn the volume up on the game and carry on without touching it.

WD-40 doesn't really effect anything. Years ago I used WD-40 to dry automotive ignition systems when they good wet. As for the noise I really wouldn't worry about it unless there are other problems.
