PS Vita 3G disable option for 3G model?

I'm looking to get the gamestop bundle which only comes with the 3G version I believe. I can get it a week early if I do this and its actually a good deal. Although I wouldn't use the 3G option i'd like to be able to disable it so its not seeping the battery life down. Also don't believe in that data plan. So anyone know if the 3G can be turned off so its basically a wifi model?

the 3g is not "on" unless you have a sim card inserted

oh i see, wasn't even aware it took a sim for the 3G signal, well that saves me the trouble of having to disable it.

The 3G is not active unless you have a sim card installed and a 3G data account setup.
