What if sony made a smaller ps vita with an LED or LCD screen instead and it being cheaper? Maybe toss in 4gb of internal storage so you can save your games right out of the box?

Basicly a entry level vita so the system is more accessible and sells more units which means more games being made for it

Would it sell? It's not an entirely original idea but many products do this sorta thing and it seems to work out.

Knowing Sony and all the iterations they had for their original PSP... I'd say it is a possibility :). I'm surprised Sony hasn't announced a new version of the Vita yet lol. As long as the PS Vita doesn't end up like the Nintendo 2DS :P

I would jump on a Vita with a PSP Go form factor. And with those tiny cartridges, there would be no excuse to go digital only and limit appeal.

How exactly could they make it any smaller? It already feels cramped as it is... Maybe a smaller screen but that's about it.

they could make it a bit more like the xperia play perhaps. replace the sticks with PSP/3DS style nubs and have them flip out from behind the screen. then make it 4" (keep the same res though as the current vita). they could perhaps offer a phone and wifi version of that also. the wifi version being cheaper than the current vita but the phone version costing more. would it be a big deal adding phone functionality to the vita OS though? they could have it dual boot with android also but that could be a bit of a faff. market it as a gaming device that just so happens to make calls and texts rather than a smart phone and dont price it into galaxy S4 territority though and it could be an interesting alternative. also give the new model 8GB if internal storage. 250 quid for the phone. 200 quid (or whatever the vita is now with the price drop...200 ish where i live) for the current model and 170 for the 4" version.

A system that you could actually fit in an average sized pocket would probably help a lot. The Vita is larger than a folded 3DS XL and its design leaves the screen and analog sticks exposed, making it very difficult to take the damned thing with you. I have a carrying case for mine but that just adds even more bulk; I almost always take the 3DS with me and leave the Vita at home as a result. I don't know what the hell Sony was thinking, but it seems like they've been reading from the SEGA Game Gear handbook (expensive, horizontal orientation, nicer screen technology, too damned big to fit in your pocket, poor battery life).

There's plenty of real estate on the front of the unit; it's cramped because they designed it that way. There's no reason for the d-pad and buttons to be so tiny, nor is there any reason for the analog sticks to be placed so close to the X button/d-pad down. That has been my complaint about the system since I got it. They definitely could have spread the controls out more, given how large the unit is.

Making it pocketable would require axing the analog sticks and replacing them with some sliding mechanism. No thanks to crap controls.

doubt it Sony has one big problem...It is called phones. With the number of highend phones out there now there is little reason to buy a device just for games when phones now have some great console level games and it is always with you, sure touch screen controls aren't perfect but they do work.

Well now there is news about a PS Vita lite version with 1gb of internal storage. Should be interesting  to see if it does help with sales, even sony is lowering the price of the memory cards which we can all appreciate (waiting for that 64gb card) but still no hdmi out

Personally, I find touch controls completely unusable on my phone for games like final fantasy 3 and gta vice city, not to mention it drains my battery life faster and we don't really get new AAA games on phones.

As an owner of both systems I can say without question that the 3DS circle pads are better than the Vita's sticks. The sticks on the Vita are stupidly convex instead of concave and are therefore slippery, and there's not nearly enough throw because the sticks themselves are too small. They may be technically more precise but in practice they suck to use.

That is just your preference. I prefer vita's analogs being raised. I don't find them slippery or not having enough throw. Though I was used to psp which was about the same. 3ds analog just doesn't feel natural to me like vita's do.

Please name a mobile game that can match

Uncharted golden abyss

Fire emblem awakening

Resident evil revelations

Mobile games aren't made with the same production and quality as 3ds and vita, 3ds and vita are real consoles built for gaming and mobile phones are pocket computers that happen to play OK games.

As an owner of both systems, you are absolutely out of your mind. Try playing RE:R with the CPP....simply awful for aiming.

I don't want to play that game either way, on any system, but I would assume that has to do with the way the game was designed. Because the circle pad works fine for precise 3D platformers and intense 3D action games like Super Mario 3D Land and Kid Icarus Uprising. It took me forever to get used to the controls on games like Gravity Rush and Wipeout (and I own literally every Wipeout game -- I understand how to play the series) because the throw is just too small. The stick is quite sensitive but when your range of motion is so limited that is more of a hindrance than an advantage, and in the event that a game has a dead zone (see: Uncharted) it makes certain tasks absolutely unwieldy.
