Howdy everyone! I'm new here so I'm sorry if there's already a topic for this kind of thing or something, but was wondering if i could get some recommendations on PlayStation 1 games to buy off of PSN (or SEN, whatever)? I'm a huuuuuuuuuuuge fan of platformers and I already have Crash Bandicoot, Crash Bandicoot 3: WARPED, and Spyro the Dragon 2: Ripto's Rage purchased and downloaded. I got these games because of their very cheap price and great reputation. Seeing as it's not been TOO long since I got my new PS3 (I got it in December as a Christmas gift from my wonderful family), there haven't been many other games I've purchased off of the PlayStation Store. My current games are (at this point in time): Sonic CD, Sonic Adventure, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Crash Bandicoot Crash Bandicoot 3: WARPED Spyro the Dragon 2: Ripto's Rage So I'm primarily looking for some PS1 classics, but games on the PSS in general would be very helpful. I like cheap prices (I picked up the Crash/Spyro games for 6 bucks each I think), so that helps too. And I ADORE platformers. If I've done anything wrong just let me know by the way...I'm still new here. lol

If you love platformers, then let me introduce you to your newest obsession:

"PANDEMONIUM!"

One of the best, most un-talked about game for the PS1, it's still great today. Works on PS3 or PSP very nicely. That's one that seems to be missing from your list, and I can't recommend it enough! Literally one of my Top-Five Games of All Time. It's $5.99 like most-all the rest of those games, but worth so much more. Please check back in after your purchase and let me know what you think!

:D

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. I played it for the first time about a year ago and was blown away by how good it is. I highly recommend it

"Alien Trilogy" and "Alien Resurrection" ShangTsung17

Yer gonna laugh, I just picked up "Resurrection" tonight for $3us...

If it sucks, I'm gunnin' for ya, Shang!

:D

(I kid, I kid... But thank you for planting the seed for when I saw it in resale! VERY happy to have it in the collection, even though it's missing the booklet/ cover art).

Also - "Alien Trilogy" wasn't released for the PSOne, was it? I know it hit a few other platforms (like PC & Saturn, perhaps?) but I don't think the PSOne version was ever released? I could most-certainly be wrong...

... I also found another copy of "Clock Tower 3" for $5, and picked it up to gift to someone in the future. And I found a copy of "RE3: Nemesis" for my GC, as well. That was $10, but I figure, it's a vanishing breed so I wasn't disuaded from purchase.

;)

I don't see Alien Trilogy on US PSN.

Anyhow, Castlevania Symphony of the Night!!!!!!!!!! Oh, but that is free for PS+ members in NA, along with Castlevania Chronicles on the 1st.

Pretty much every RE, consider making a Japanese account as well, some great RPGs: Legend of the DRAGOON. Xenogears. On a different note: Twisted Metal 2 is also a really fun game. One of my favorite franchises. Silent Hill is also good, but I'm obviously a horror fan, dunno about you.

Get Spyro the Dragon or Spyro 3 can't go wrong with those.

Honestly I love all 3 of the first games and the original is still my favorite.

Nobody seems to remember that hidden sleeper gem 'Tomba!' While the cheapest price for this used is going for about $60 on Amazon, this is one of the best platformers on the PS1. It combined platforming with an extremely charming 2D/3D world landscape, also incorporated some cool RPG elements and puzzles, although it was far from an RPG game. It was in a class all its own. I LOOOOVED playing that game!

If you want I'll sell you mine for $200, complete and near mint with instructions and original case.

Oh, but in terms of general classics, you HAVE to play Symphony of the Night... it's like a law if you own a PS1. Also Resident Evil 1 through 3 are musts (especially RE2, and if you can get your hands on RE1:The Director's Cut, even better). Point Blank was also an amazing Light gun shooter if you can find a working Guncon. Also can't forget Tomb Raider 1 and 2 (3 was kinda sucky). Then there's of course Metal Gear Solid 1. Most of these can be found pretty cheap on Amazon as used items.

My other favorites were Nightmare Creatures, Gran Turismo 2, Tekken 3, and Einhander is another space shooter classic (but that's also a rare one, going for about $45 used on Amazon as starting price... but again, I can sell you my near mint copy for about $200, lol)

It's been beaten into the ground at this point, but yes, Symphony of the Night. Great visuals, great music, great gameplay. It get's my vote for best platformer. You didn't ask for RPGs, but if you enjoy them, get Xenogears or any of the other Square classics. Frankly, PS1 games are too archaic for me as I can't stand playing games that aren't HD and don't have trophies. Perhaps those things are arbitrary, but that's how I am nowadays. I'm spoiled by the current gen games and unless the old game is completely made over, I can't play it for too long.

Metal Gear Solid

Twisted Metal 1 and 2

Resident Evil series (though only if you can stand incredibly dated gameplay, more then usual)
