So, just got my ps3 today. XD Is there any talk of putting some of the ps2 games on the PSN? I mean I know they won't let us through in the disk, or whatever but couldn't they basically just run a ps2 emulator on the ps3 or something and have some of the ps2 classics? I know i'd pay for a few of those titles.

I don't think it's possible for them to do this otherwise they would since it would be massive - games like ICO or Shadow of the Colossus, heck, even the Ratchet and Clank games again! But there is speculation they can make it happen, but you'll have to wait and see. Some people argue that it's impossible, but like I said, speculation suggests otherwise. Enjoy your PS3 anyway! There's plenty of PS1 classics on there for you to get, and possibly PS2, so just wait and see!

there is a way ....but the files would be massive as mentioned before

but they can do so ...and make an update with emulation..which would be of decent size as well

they could just compress the heck out of the games ...then uncompress and install would take longer ...but oh well

Sony said they didn't implement Backwards compatability anymore because playing a ps2 game required actual ps2 hardware in the machine to make it work and it would be too expensive. Sony stated just software can not run a ps2 emulator. This implies that we won't get ps2 classics on PSN either. However I have seen people emulate ps2 games on their pc so why shouldn't it be possible on the ps3 :|

Ya I'm not sure So far I love my ps3, very first thing I did was buy and DL ffvii. Almost how forgot how the dated the graphics would look, but I don't care. Just so awesome the BC for ps1 games. Ya, I thought I had heard that ps2 games we're finally being emulated on PC's, but guess I'm wrong oh well.

The ones who emulate the ps 2 games on pc are stupid. The games are glitchy, ugly with low fps and no save place.I emulate only ps1 games, because i can't find a console for my original games, but the emu is good. The ps3 have a really different type of reader and maybe this is the problem. But soon it will be no problem when they upload a ps2 games on ps3 format.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Sony resort to 'cloud gaming' to enable us to play PS2 games. Remember the 'PS Cloud' patent?

Not all ps2 games emulated on a pc come out bad. It really depends on how fast your pc is. I've played FFX through an emulator start to finish with only an occasional slowdown and I'm only running 2.2ghz. The emulator can actually make ps2 games look much better by raising the resolution above the ps2 native. There's definitely save features too, save states and even the memory card function works
