I have a set of PS2 component cables and I was wondering if anybody knows if or thinks that they would work on a PS3 ?

yes, they will work on the PS3, im using my PS2 component cables to play also.

Does it matter a great deal if they aren't the official Sony ones, mine are Gameware ones from game.

i doesnt really matter
every store where i live sells all of them for 19.99 so i figured i would just buy the officials

yes they will work, im using a 3rd party set at the moment, so they dont have to be official sony ones either.

Yep. I'm using the MadCatz cable from my PS2 which also have an attachment for my old XBOX. One cable that works for 3 systems sure is nifty :)
