I got a ps3 80 gig why is there a ps2 memory stick when you can't play ps2 games?

You mean "PS1/PS2 Memory Card Utility"? I'm guessing Sony forgot to take out "PS2" out of the name.

I also have the 80GB model. :(

ya.. i cant afford ps3 games :S aint paying 70 dollers for a cd i only got 2 games , gta and mgs4 ,

You have an option to create a PS1/PS2 virtual memory card because the PS3 firmware is universal. If not, they would have to have seperate firmwares for BC PS3's and non-BC PS3's.
