why do you think that the ps3 doesn't play ps2 games and is it true that it plays ps1

This is because it costs too much money to add them both. PS1 games were classics so you can either put them in the PS3 or download them to play them. Sony is remaking PS2 games and is remastering them in HD, adding extra content, and is also giving full trophy support. Examples: The Sly Collection and The God of War Collection.

I don't understand why people say this. I have physically put discs of PS1 games into my PS3 and they all work.
And I don't know why PS2 games don't work. Some say because it was to make the PS3 more cost-efficient to produce without having the PS2 hardware included. Others say its to make a profit by re-marketing PS2 classics. I still have my PS2, so it doesn't bug me all that much.
