On the verge of buying my first PS3 (own a PS1 with lots of dust on it now) but how much of an advantage is the PS3 with 250GB over the PS3 with 120GB's? On the PS1, you needed a card to save your (spot) on the game, but do you actually download whole games onto your PS3 hard drive? I won't be downloading music, video or pics on my PS3, so it is really necessary to spend and extra $50 USD for the larger HD? I want to thank everyone for being so eager to answer my very basic questions. And just one other question: Is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, the latest issue for this game or is it COD4:Modern Warfare 2? So confusing.

In my opinion you should get the 120Gb. After all, you're not gonna fill the console with tons of musics, videos, images, etc right? Only games and saves. so the 120Gb should do just perfectly well. I'm really happy with mine, and it's far from full. By the way, look at it this way. Every game will occupy and space of 7433Kb (around that) Thats not even 1Mb, and you would need 120,000 Mb to fully fulfill your PS3. Uhm...Call it whatever suits you best...I call it COD:MW2.

You forgot game installs that can use several GB, but over all I agree with him, get the 120GB, if you ever reach the end, you can still buy a new HD ^^

120GB should be plenty. I have about 20 or left left on my 80GB but it's full of demos, large games, music, a couple of vids...

The difference in price between the 120GB and 250GB is enough to buy an entirely seperate 300GB hardrive for your 120 if it runs out.

Basically that means go the 120GB route.

Yes, you do download the entire game onto the hard drive (considering these were on one CD the largest would be in the range of 700 MB at most, most of them are less) and you set up a "virtual" PSOne card on the drive to use for the game saves. You say you won't be loading up on the videos or music so the 120 should be plenty but I would honestly put up the extra $50 to get the 250 GB (one never knows when you may change your mind on some of what you do). Finally, the proper title is Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

I'd say go with the 120gb. The extra $50 for the 250gb is a decent price, but there's ways around the hdd size limitation if you do fill it up. First off unless you plan on getting a ton of games, download and keep demos, or will have a ton of music and videos on your PS3 you'll be pretty safe. Installs can be large; 5gb at times, but you can always delete the game data (not to be confused with save data). Saves are not very large (anywhere from 47kb to 6200kb). I have a 320gb with 166gb left. Keep in mind I have all my games' game data (mandatory installs) on my hdd. I have 56 disc based titles, 23 PSN titles, and 12 PSOne titles on my PS3 along with 3 full length music albums. I upgraded mainly because I don't want to have to reinstall game data when I got tight on hdd space (had a 60gb hdd). Many titles have patches that also need to be installed so it can take a lot of time. When my PS3 YLOD'd on me I found out first hand. The only thing that I would worry about is if you get a 120gb now and then decide to upgrade later on. I've noticed that some games save data can't be copied. You can use the backup utility, but of course you're going to need an external hdd that equals the size of space you have taken up on your PS3.

*edit just read somewhere that backup utility doesn't back up copy protected game saves (Assassin's Creed 2 and Demon Souls for example)

Um....I think thats 7.4MBs. LOL, not to be a d***. I have the 120 and it is far from full and I play alot of games and have a bunch of demos and I still have about 70GB's left. So go with the 120.

Get the 120GB one, and if you need more space buy your own cheap 250gb hard drive off of newegg.com and install it.

The difference between the two models in price is very low here in the UK I got my PS3 250GB for £284.99 along with Uncharted 2 and Little Big Planet in a bundle, the same bundle was up for grabs with the 120GB HDD and it cost's £264.99... £20 for twice the space why not.

120 gb should be sufficient, and don't forget you can download whole games and game demos on the playstation online network.
