You have to set it to do so.jshigashi
AND you pretty much REQUIRE HDMI for DVD upscaling as I've not found one DVD yet that upscales bia component :(
Ade.
the firmware update never upscaled movies to hd and never upscaled games at all, is this what ment to happen or does my console have a proplem.lil-maxy

You can't be taken seriously when you lack elaboration of your problems. This is just an euphemism of what you could have been called using that subject and then proceeding to jumping at those conclusions (firmware not working or the state of your "broken" PS3).

My old DVD player looked just as good running through component as my new OPPO does through HDMI. Only reason I upgraded was because my old one would not run burned DVDs (not that they look anything but terrible on an HDTV anyway...). But, as for the TC, check some things before you make ignorant statements:
1. Be sure and set the two new options for PS2 software upscaling and smoothing to ON.
2. Make sure you have an HDTV.
3. Make sure you are running component or HDMI from your PS3 to your HDTV.
4. Stop saying things which are dumb.

Its quite obvious u either dont no what u are doing, or u dont even have an HDTV, so please dont make any threads unless you have facts that the updates are crap which almost every game site ive been to has been poisitive and praising the update so u obviously are doing something wrong, because, fact is the update was very well imput, and praised by every game site.

I've got mine all set up and my PS2 games look great! (not like Hi-Def Stupendious, but really really good!)Â I just plugged Scarface in and played in for awhile and the new scaling really helps with the"jaggys"Â And DVD's run through a HDMI cable look awsome.
I just think that you need to tweak your settings. The upscaling will not occur if you are running your audio and video through componet cables

i have a hd tv and a hdmi plz tell me wats the proplemlil-maxy

Just go in the settings and set it to upscale. By default, they look normal.Â

Check under settings, new options have been added.Â
Things are very self-explanatory, so just go and set it up for yourselves.Â
I went on settings and upscaled the games then i put smoothing on and nothing happened, the ps2 games still look the same, does my console have a problem? lil-maxy
Â
lol if you dont see a diffrence then your blind they looks way better if there wasent upscaleing and smoothingÂ
either you lieing or completely confused becuase you just need your ps3 set to 720p-1080i/p and it should upscale. mine works fine.
i played ff12 and watched galditor upscaled

That is the link to the official details of the update. Basically, they are saying that upscaling and smoothing may or may not work.

What tv are you using and what cables are you running? Also what are your output settings in the PS3 - video output (480p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p)? Automatic or custom
