Well... I just bought the PS3 last night at my local Circuit City and turns out I can't play any PS2 games! So I was wondering if I could return it later today and be able to get my money back. I want to get the 60gb now that I know it can play all the PS2 games and PS1. Will I be able to go back and get a refund?

Well you will have to pay more for it the 60GB is more expensive and that's if they have any left as the 60gb is only as stocks last, the 40GB is the latest model and Sony no longer support BC, failing that the 80GB has BC but it's software based so not all PS2 games will work and like the 60GB it costs more.
I'ma go in to Circuit City later today and say I thought it would be able to play the PS2 games and what not and just say I wasn't satisfied. Would they be willing to give me a refund? And yes... I do have all the packaging, didn't throw anything away besides the wrapping.

dont say that. say it doesnt work, poor water or somthing inside it. im sure all u gotta say is it over heats and ur friend has one too and his never gets as hot as this one does...
I got a 2 year gurantee though, and it covers anything, they even told me if I drop water on it and it gets mest up I get a new one, they don't have the 60gb though only the 40 and 80. Sams Club has the 60gb and that's the one I want :\

i got a better idea, take the caseing off ur ps3 and put the ps2s parts inside. they wont check it all they will open the box look for all hook ups and see the ps3 case and then they will send it back to sony. by the time they find out ull have a free 40 gig ps3;)

If you are really worried about it then call first and ask. If they tell you they can't take it back on an exchange, then go in and come up with some sort of story about how it won't work or something... Maybe even tell the truth and say you were looking for B/C and didn't know the 40gb version didn't have it. I can't imagine why they would refuse an exchange if everything is intact.
Thanks guys hopefully everything goes as I plan. By the way, the PS3 isn't as bad as people make it seem, it's actually pretty nice and has good features.

Just take it back and tell them what happend! Tell them you were "dupped" and thought it played PS2 games. They should take it back no problem. Then go to Sam's Club and get the 60GB! (I have a 60GB, trust me it's worth the extra bucks) Enjoy the PS3 and welcome to the community.

I used to work at Circuit City. Why would you pour water on it and ruin a perfectly good system. That is the stupidest idea I've ever heard. Just tell them you aren't satisfied. They have to give you a 30-day exchange no matter what, provided you didn't throw it out the window or something. It's their policy.
So I go back to Circuit City and return the PS3 no problem and with no hassle :D I was so glad after we left and I was on my way to Sams Club. We get their and all they have is the 80gb, they don't carry the 60gb in stores anymore. I leave upset and head over to the mall. Their I go into everysingle video game store but with no luck of coming across a 60gb. As I give up and plan to head home, my mom says she wants to go to Target. So I take her and go check out the video games in hopes of their being a 60gb, but with low hopes. When I get their I see the rays of line coming out of the case were their sits a beautiful 60gb. I finally got it and boy is it sweet! Also got R&C since I've heard so many good things about it.
Congrats on the 60GB! I just got one today as well. I found one used at a local pawn shop for $299! I thought I would never find one just like you. It's a little scratched up, but for backwards compatability it's worth it to me.
Wow $299!! That's a really good find, congradulations and welcome to the evergrowing PS3 community. This is truely a great one. I just poped in one of my PS2 games and it played it like a champ. I love it, now I can go ahead and get GoW2!
Since they don't manufacture the 60 anymore you have to get the 80. Instead of returning the 40 and getting software emulation keep it and just buy the slim ps2. it'll only cost you a measly 30 extra dollars over the 80gb's price and it'll play every game perfectly. Some of the games have serious issues. Like God of War has a staticy noise playing over the FMVs, MGS3 plays at of 60% normal speed and the cutscenes are a little off.
You'll love GOW2, it's definitely one of my favorite PS2 games. That sux your PS2 wouldn't play it. I had a friend who's PS2 did the same thing. You should go trade that PS2 in to gamestop for GOW2. That's what I'm gonna do with my PS2. Trade it in for a PS3 game!

if you found a 60gb at circuit city then maybe you could get store credit on the 40gb. Then just make up the difference. Otherwise just try to get your money back.
Thanks everyone, and for those of you who still don't know, I did exchange it and got a 60gb. I just played R&C for a while and boy is it awsome, just like the ones for the PS2 but better. Love the Disco Ball XD
R&C sounds awesome. Man, I wish I had some games for mine. I loved the PSP R&C. I also want NGS, Uncharted, Assassin's Creed, Heavenly Sword, Folklore, but most of all the reason I got a PS3 was for 2 games: Devil May Cry 4, and Metal Gear Solid 4. Two of the best video game series of all time imo. Oh yeah, God of War 3 will be good too.

Devil May Cry 4 is exclusive to the PS3? Or will other systems get the game? I got NGS, I've always been a fan of the Xbox versions and loved them, so I thought it would be a good idea to finish the collection withe Sigma. It's really nice. I also got Warhawk or something like that, it's only online playable, the controlers to that game are a little hard to get use to but it seems like an alright game.
No, Devil May Cry 4 is not exclusive, but I just want it on the PS3 because the other DMC games are on PS2, and I want them all to play on the same system. Also, I like the sony controller better. And, I just am not that interested in the XBOX 360. Don't have one and don't want one.
Haha that's cool. I never played the other DMCs but I've been searching for the triple pack that comes with all 3 games. No luck what-so-ever so far. I am looking forward to MGS4 as well, looks like an awsome addition to the MGS series.
I saw the triple pack the other day at gamestop for like $29. But, if you can't find that, at least get the first DMC and DMC3:SE used at gamestop. I think the first one is less than $10 and the 3rd one is less than $20. You don't need the 2nd one anyways, it sux compared to the other two. They are my favorite action games ever. Better than Ninja Gaiden or God of War to me. (Although I love both of those games, too.)
I'll give them a try if I come across them, I've seen gameplay videos of the game and it looks insane. I'm also looking forward to SOCOM: Confrentation. I have always been a fan of SOCOM until SOCOM 3 came out and ruined it for me. Anyone else played SOCOM?
I've only played the demo for Socom: Fireteam Bravo 2 on the PSP. It's probably different than the console versions, but it looked like a nice game. I'd try the PS3 version.
There hasn't been too much hyp around Socom but I still think it will be a very good game. And also if you have Warhawk make sure you don't give up on it! The learning curve is steep but once you get into it, it's just a plain amazing game...so much action going on around you and it never slows down one bit!
MGS4 is going to be a killer app. I can't wait for it...good choice:) Don't forget about Killzone 2 and HAZE though you guys!
Also, when you buy a ps3 with BC which are 60 GB or 80 GB models, make sure the ps2 games you wanna play them on it are NTC because it doesn't play PAL dvds. It's region locked
Ok, here is what you do. Circuit City has a no questions no asked return policy, but they also don't allow returns on certain things, only exchanges, and sometimes they charge restocking. Call the store, get the persons name, and tell them you want to exchange it for the 80 gig and you didn't know it wasn't BC. If they say there is restocking fee or they won't, then take it back and tell them it doesn't work and get a new one (no questions asked return policy). Take the new one (unopened) over to a Walmart that has the 80 gig in stock, and tell them you got it as a bday gift but its the wrong version. They will exchange it and allow you to pay the difference, just need your drivers license since you won't have a walmart receipt. Seems like a round about way, but it will work if all else fails.GL
