I was thinking of getting a PS3 40 gig but I still want to get the PS2 titles i missed out on (gamecube...) and Ps1 titles i want to replay. Does anyone know if You'll be able to get PS2 and PS1 software emulations to play the old titles on PS3?

Cheers

Thomas

if they do put PS2 games on PSN, they haven't announced it yet. As for PS1 games, youre fine - the 40gb plays them and you can download select titles from PSN.

this is just a guess, but i would assume that in the next 2-4 years sony will either have the ps2 games on the psn, or in a software update, a ps2 emulator will be available and the 40 gig units will have b.c.

I was just thinking, why wouldnt they include backward compatibility through emulation software? There is no reason unless the 40gb doesnt have a DVD drive therefore physically disabling it to play PS2 games, or sony is just being weird by not includingthe software, of course it would suck if it didnt have a DVD drive, there just isnt any reason at all that i can think of why sony wouldnt include them, beside to lower price, but putting emulation probably costs pennies more for each PS3 because the emulationis already made for the 80gb. I just don't know. Can someone please explain or help out.

Because the 60gb use hardware for bc and 80gb use half hardware half software, none use total software emulation except ps1 titles. I don't think sony want to invest in making a total software emulation. The bc with these usually suck and it cost a great deal of money to make.

no, the 80gb doesnt have any hardware for ps2, atleast not to my knowledge, please show where you heard this.Maybe the didnt include any PS2 games because they want to get people to start playing only PS3. Get people away from PS2. That seems like a good explaination. And a good desision. It doesnt bother me that much though.
