so I just picked up a PS3 not too long ago and had installed sigma and a few save games of oblivion, AC4 and resistance. when i started d/ling games, videos and demos, i noticed that my HD only had 36 gigs on it. now is there a bunch of preloaded stuff on the ps3 when you get it? or did the games take that much space? any one know anything about this?
It comes preloaded with a bunch of stuff. I'm not sure the amount of HD space I had before DL demos and stuff, but I think it was a little less than 50. Someone here will know the exact figure.

ude thats exactly the games i have cool but anyways when you first start out the ps3 HDD is 47GB.Check your game data utility thats where they take most of the space
Whatever takes up space initially is using about 10 Gigs for me, because when I did a full format I still only had like 64 out of 74 Gigs free on my "80 Gig". I wasn't exactly thrilled to see that.
I used to have a 60g but I was afraid I would fill it too quickly, I upgraded to a 200g once I formated the drive (and also you have to take into account that there is a formula for converting the HDD space accuratly, but whatever I don't feel like getting technical) anyway I think I had about 186 to start, and I have a bunch of crap on there now. Warhawk, Resistance, Sigma, Darkness, bunch of demos, lots of movies, I think I'm down to like 148g now. So it does add up after a while. I picked up a $10 eternal case for my old 60g drive and use that as external storage for my PS3 now... If you can I would say upgrade, check newegg.com or tigerdirect.com for really good prices, just keep in mind you need a laptop HD (2.5 inch) for the PS3, you won't regret having more space.
Ya it gets eaten up fairly fast. I can see people (if the ps3 takes off) requiring bigger hard drives. I own about 5 ps3 games and have 35 or so gb left on my 60gb ps3. If i owned as many ps3 games as i do 360 (40 something retail ones last i looked) i would likely be long since out of space
I have downloaded just about everything released on the US PSN and some of the Japanese stuff too. From demos to the HS Anime to ALL of the video trailers. I now have less than 9GB--and this is only because I have deleted some of the shatty games and trailers. I have also elected to install every game that gives me the option.
I think the PSN or whomever is doing the compression is doing a fine job. I really do not consider 60GB alot of space these days, but for what I have downloaded--I am surprised it all fit.
