They are losing money with each hardware sale.
They make it up via software sales.
This is not new in the gaming industry.Â

And they make up alot as well $60 for a game. in the end the don't lose much at all. Not to mention money made in the PlayStation Store.
The consumer is getting the product at a discount. Kudos to Sony.

I believe all console companies (with the exception of one right now) lose money with their hardware.
Over time, with falling technology costs and improved manufacturing efficiency, these companies begin to churn out a profit in their hardware and software sales.
Ultimately, yes, the company always makes money. If they didn't, we wouldn't be purchasing from them anymore. They'd have dropped out of the game.Â

there not losing $200 dollars on the sale people. they are spending $800 to make it and then sell it for $600 so they do lose $200 but its not during the sale. there is a difference.dalscowboys22

how does it not make sense? you people are saying there losing $200 when they are selling it, and to me that sounds bad and isnt true. yea they are losing $200 but not when they sell it they are losing $200 total because its an $800 cost to make.Please Log In to post.
