Hey,

Just wondering how good the PS3 is as a Blue Ray Player? I know that the cheepest Blue Ray player is now under $150, but as a Blue Ray player alone with the quailty of the PS3 Blue Ray, what kind of Blue Ray player price range would it fall into?

-Thanks

Well it is a better deal for all you get than some of the cheaper players but some people have said that the audio sometimes isnt as good as higher end players. For me its fine since i dont have a sound system for my HDTV but you get a ton of other great things with the PS3 that more than justify it's price over just players.

here recently i saw a comparison done on one of the big tech sites. Cnet or some were were thay compaired alot of Blueray players rangeing from the cheapos to the high end including ps3 and ps3 was amoung the very top of the list. iirc it was like 8 times faster to load up movies ect than the cheaper and even some of the higher end BD players. iirc some of those cheap players took like 2 or 3 minuts to go from putting in the disk to getting to the opening credits or menu. the ign PS3 podcast was talking about it last week or the week before. so yea the ps3 is still one of the best BD players out there. Also i think i remember them saying that it was one of the better performers for upscaling dvd's as well.

only downside i can see to buying a ps3 as a BD player is that its IMHO UGLY. but that would only realy matter if you realy didnt care about gameing what so ever. It realy is kind of a eye sore. but thats  just my opinion im sure some people find it cool looking..... maby Gorge forman lol :p

remember.. the cheap blu ray players they have in sales now are Profile 1.0 blu ray players.. which means that they probably won't have Ethernet access so everytime you have to upgrade the firmware you will have to download it online and burn a disc.

* they load time is horrible.

* they're not profile 1.1 or profile 2.0 which means no picture in picture commentary or internet features.
