PS3 as a blu-ray player?

My parents want to improve our living room and are asking me about Blu-ray players and stuff and from what I've gathered, the PS3 is cheaper than a Blu-ray player so now I have some questions
1. Is the PS3 a good Blu-ray player? Better, worse or just the same as a standard Blu-ray player?
2. I've read that the PS3 has problems playing DVDs, is this true? If so, how bad is it?
3. I've also read that the PS3 doesn't work on some TV's, this any true?
4. Is there a remote to control it or do you have to use the PS3 controller?

I think that's about all I want to know. Also, please let me know how you guys are finding your PS3s. Are you enjoying them? are the games good? Is online good? Thanks to any who help:D

the ps3 as a bd player is about the same as a simlar priced unit which is good..

plus its constantly getting upgraded to meet new bd spec which is aslo good.

as far as a dvd player its probably average as what you can find anywhere only the ps3 dvd player upscales all your dvds to 1080p.

the ps3 should work with any tv that has a hdmi input on it with no problem...

aal in all its a solid but plaus your getting a gameing console and other things to boot..

Well from what i hear its just as good as any blu-ray player, and I have never heard of having any troubles playing dvd's so that shouldn't be a problem. The ps3 will work on any tv as it's plugged in right. You can also buy a dvd/ bluray remote control for the ps3.

it will play blu rays perfectly fine buy it.

yeah def games first but the blu ray is as good as any out there.
