ok putting games aside for a moment

how does the PS3 rate as just a blu-ray player.. are there any noticable issues, is there anything particularily lacking, in both the machine or the remote control

and also are there any ways (legal ways) of making it a multi-region blu-ray player?

any help appreciated

bh

the ps3 controller is annoying sometimes but nothing that cant be overcome, i know they make a separate controller if you would like to make it way simpler, you can also setup the ps3 so it plays movies when you enter the disk... i dont know anything about the multiregional stuff though sorry. I don't own a separate blu ray player but since the ps3 will be updated for a long time to come I think it might end up being a superior blu ray player in the end if it isnt right now? I just got a hdtv a few days ago watching blu ray movies on it awesome!!

sure its cheaper than regular blu-ray players anyways. and i remember an article about blu-ray saying that the PS3 was the best blu-ray player cos it has updating firmware, but don't quote me on that.

its by far the best blu ray player on the market given its Ethernet port and its ability to play games.

I would recommend the PS3 as a stand alone blu-ray player to any one interested in watching high def films. Here are a few reasons why. The weight of PS3 is around 12 to 13 lbs. That is important because of vibration. Many blu-ray players are around half that weight. A player around 14 lbs could cost $1000. Also free updates. Some blu-ray players only perform at 1080P, but the PS3 will run at 1080P/24P after correct update is installed. You need HDMI to run at that setting, and a tv capable to perform at this setting. Blu-ray films run at 1080P/24P. You get all of this for only $350 to $400. Plus, it's a descent computer for your tv. Many blu-ray films have online functionality, but not all blu-ray players are able to be online. Hope this help.

I believe you can buy blu ray players for less than a PS3 nowadays.

I think not only is the PS3 a great video console but also an awesome Blu Ray player. I heard somewhere that the PS3's Blu Ray player is the best on the market. (sorry no source but i really did read it). Also using the controller (Sixaxis) is fairly easy but if you want you can pay $20 to get a bluetooth remote. Its your call.

A lot of blu-ray movies are region free http://bluray.liesinc.net/

PS3 loads movies faster than most blu-ray players.

It's the cheapest Blu Ray player. Buy a converter and you've got everything you need really. It also has that new Blu Ray database (or whatever it is) connected to the net. (never used it so I wouldn't know much about it yet)

I works fine, and the blutooth remote is nice. Just keep in mind that watching BR movies on the PS3 consumes nearly 5x the electricity of a regular stand alone BR player. If that doent bother you then its pretty good for all the other stuff it can do.
