i bought my ps3 today (80 gig)and i have a 360 as well. Unfortunately i have a standard def TV for now. As you all know, the ps3 comes with the standard cablesand i plugged it in and the graphics look like ps2!!!! will the AV cables help the picture even on a standard def tv?

Funny you should mention that, the PS2 and 3 use the exact same av cable. S-video will look a little better, component even more so, but it will still be 480i sd. It should still look better than PS2 though.
Just try to save up for an hd I guess, I bought my 24" for like $350 from best buy. Prices have been coming down alot lately, we paid like $700 for a 27" a few monthns back.

Many SD TVS still have the compnent video cables (red/green/blue). If you have these ports on your TV, using a component cable would let you at least output 480p vs 480i with the included cables. As a bonus, the same cable will let you do 720p/1080i if you get an HDTV (but not 1080p)

If you don't have component inputs, perhaps you have an s-video input. There difference won't be as big as with the component cables, but it would still be better than the included composite cables.
