60GB PS3's have the chip in it to play PS2 games
80GB PS3's have the downloaded software that lets it play PS2 games
So my question is, whats stopping the 40GB from playing PS2 games? Why can't it use the software like the 80GB?

The 80GB emulates it.
I don't know why the 40GB can't play it, but if it is only software emulation then I can see Sony releasing the software via PSN at a later date. But who knows...
It can easily be done via firmware, but I just don't see why they would leave out something so essential in the first place.ColdScorpion
Sony said they don't wanna focus on BC any more...
I love plaing all of my ps1 and ps2 games on my 80 gig PS3 from time to time. I can even create a memory card for each game.
Too bad they dont give that ability to everyone in a firmware update...
