is it true that sony is making a ps3 backwards compatability update for the ps3 system software i like heard this a little while ago and i want to know if its true.

No, that's what happens when people don't do some research first or browse the forums before posting a new thread that we already have several of.

thats what i did numskull its just stupid that they won't do that so now i have to go out and buy a damn ps2 just to play some of my good games and i dont want to waste my money on pointless crap like that now will you people chill out its just a question so what i just barley heard it and it was a small question i wasn't making it a big deal.

Come on, people. Don't be afraid of using your PS2. You can get them for $99.99 if you don't have one. That way, you don't have to wait for this rumor to become true. Also, with a real PS2, you'll be able to play 100% of all PS2 titles. Firmware emulators and such will most likely have some issues with certain games.

There was a rumor that said sony has a patent on a way to use the cell chip to emulate the PS2 chip. But no talk on whether or not it will support PS2 discs or if its PS2 games you can get off PSN.

Sony could build an emulator. There s Emulator for the PC and if a bunch of hackers could do it with little to no knowledge of the PS2, then the creator should be able to build one for PS3. But ti would take years to get a stable fast version working. pcsx2 is still very unstable. it also require BIOS straight from your memory cards to try to avoid pirateing
