PS3 beeping 3 times

Hi all!

I was playing COD4 my PS3 was reading the disc slow and I tried to access the XMB and that froze my ps3 for about 10 secs, then I turned my PS3 off and it beeped three times. After multiple resets the disc was still reading slow, so I thought it could be that my disc could be dirty and I cleaned it off and that help the freezing and My PS3 didn't beep after being turned off, but accessing the XMB during gameplay was lagging bad, so I done a Full Format and Restore and now every time I turn my PS3 off it will beep three times. I've seen that where some people had problems with the 2.4 Firmware and COD could this be the problem, or is something else?

I've had the three beeps before but only when the ps3 has frozen up on me and I had to restart it usually when I have to hold down the start for several seconds to get it to power down. Usually the three beeps means there was some sort of error. Try other games and see if it beeps or try to power down without a game. The in-game xmb always lags for me.

If the problem keeps up I would call sony.

I think it beeps when the HDD is still being used... Mine beeps 3 times occasionally.

I've restarted without out a game it still beeps three times I think the problem is with the hard drive or firmware.

You should call sony. If it was me I would. They can tell you what the problem is. good luck

One Beep = software shutdown.
Three Beeps = Hardware Shutdown.

Wait for the next firmware update since that might fix it... otherwise i wouldn't worry about it unless your warrenty is about to expire (if it is you might want to call SONY to be on the safe side).

How do either hurt the PS3?

i hav the same problem with ghost recon 2 also, i suppose it to be normal to

Sigh, there isn't anything wrong with the 3 beeps. Usually it's just teh PS3 overloading on tasks it can't cope and has to restart. This is why it mostly happenes when your playing online and you try doing something else or try and directly turn off your PS3 ,while still in online mode!

Well I did not have a disc in it

I was on web browser and every time I entered same website ( adult:oops: ) my PS3 freeze.

So I had to hold down power button at the front and ps3 switch off with 3 beep.

I'm not going to those kind of sites anymore and PS3 is turning off with no beep.

I think 3 beep means that you are switching off PS3 by force.

Mine beeps three times whenever I quit NHL09. Freaked me out at first, but it doesn't do it with any other ones so I figured it wasn't a real huge deal.socomn00b

The beeping quit, Thank God! What had me freaked was that it started beeping after a Full Format and Restore.
