No your fine. If anything your chances of anything breaking compared to the other models is greatly reduced, as the 40GB is revision 3 and contains chipset updates as well as a 65nm cell which makes it run cooler.

Break down in weeks haha good one - untrue and unlikely - maybe the slighest percentage it may crap itself but you have got to be REALLY unlucky and have receieved a bad unit.

The PS3 has a very low failure rate. You see people talk about the ones that do breakdown because people aren't in the habit of posting to say their system works fine. Not to mention this is the internet, and people can and will lie about this sort of thing to serve an agenda. (on all three different consoles forums) I'm not saying you won't get a dud out of the box, that could happen with ANY piece of electronics you buy, but you have a good chance of that not happening with this system.

I thought my 40gig was busted yesterday. I was trying to watch a dvd (brand new no scratches) but It would not load. it had worked the night before I never even took it out of my ps3, now the next day it wont load wtf. I took it out put back in still wont work. I turn my ps3 off back on still wont load. I go it too work by pressing triangle and playing the disk from the beginning. It worked now. It must have been trying to start the movie back where I left off and glitch some how.

Very untrue! Owned my PS3 since its US launch and its been to war with me twice (yes, actual war). Runs great with no problems what-so-ever.

That's a very good testement of how durable the PS3 is. There was another poster a while back that put his system through the same thing. He did say the PS3 had plenty of battle scares but the thing still worked perfectly.

Yup, that was me again. Every time someone asks about the PS3's reliability you will see me posting the same thing. My system looks like crap, but it runs like its brand new.

ive had my system since march and in about july 30th i was playing burnout, the next morning when i tried to play a game it would not load. i thought it was just my disc but when i had looked at it there wasnt even a speck of dust on it, then i decided to put in a blu-ray disc to see if that would play. no dice. after that i went online to see if it has happened to anyone else. and it turns out that this exact same problem has happened to a great number of people.

p.s your fanboyism is very childish, do some research before you start saying that this problem is impossible

edit:after about two weeks of shipping it out to sony with the receipt i got it back, and it plays for now.

I've got the old 60 GB Playstation and the worst thing that has happened to me is that one of my games froze, once, but it was my fault though, the disk is scratched up. Heck, I've even dropped a TV dinner table on it and it just bounced off. On top of that, it even fell off the couch when I was packing it up to go to my dad's house. Now if this old thing can take that without any problems afterward, I think yours will be fine.

Every piece of hardware has issues sometimes, just grab an extra warranty, I have been through a ps3 blowing up on me I and with the warranty I was back gaming in less then 24 hours on me ps3 :)

nah there is no break down issues. The thing you sure worry about is getting software issues after updates which aren't big anyways

I have the 80gb metal gear solid ps3 and its not working fine. I was playing the Mercenaries 2 demo and when i quit the game it made the bell noise and suddenly the picture stoppped coming and then i was playing a ps2 game, God Of War 2 and again the same thing happened. Should I refund it and get a xbox360. Should i exhange or should i keep it.

My PS3 got knocked off the top of my entertainment center and fell about 4 feet while turned on. The TV went black so I thought it was dead, but I restarted it and it came back on and has been running great ever since and that was over a year ago.

99% of the issues I hear from people are "user error" and are easily fixed.

I wish my 80GB had that chipset because mine kicks in the fans way too much.

i had a 40 gb since march and its running great it only froze once on me... make sure theres no dust on the console try to blow off the dust as much as u can and dont ram the cd into the disc drive just slowly insert it and let the ps3 suck it in.

my first ps3 was a 40 gb and it didnt last two months, so i would be concerned if your buying a used system, and even if its new why woudnt you go with a more reliable model like the slim

Your only issue is buying a pre-owned one that has YLOD'd and been temp fixed to allow for a sale... And then your gonna get landed with it and have it break soon, only on a pre-owned one though.
