Well I got the yellow/blinking red light of doom today and paid my 150 bucks to have Sony fix it. While I'm waiting for the box.. is there any way I'd be able to retrieve the hours of my life from the hard drive before I send it off? I thought I heard that if I remove it and try and like load it up on another PS3, it would have to autoformat and erase all my data anyway. Is this true?

Yes, that is true. Really, there is no way of getting it back, but there maybe some way by hooking it up to your PC (i've heard before).

Anyone else hear about this hooking up to PC stuff? Thanks for the replies. I guess I dont mind playing through all my games again, but some of that **** took a lot of time to do. Oh well.

No, that doesn't work, i've tried it.

As for attaching it to a PC, i dont know anything about it, i've just heard ways that may take alongtime.

Just in case you didn't know, as long as you remember the email adress you used and your password, you can salvage your PSN account.

I lost my 60 GB in a fire, sucks i know, but any who you can not put your old HDD in another PS3 it will ask you to format...
However, it seems like regardless if it's a smaller HDD then the ones usually found in desktop PC's it seems it has the same SATA and SATA power hookups, so therefore if you have an extra SATA cable, power hookup and a motherboard that supports such a thing, it seem possible, however i do not know how it is going to work with the file transfer, I would suggest if you try this do it as soon as you get your new PS3, therefore if you manage to hook it up and transfer you files it might still ask you to format your new HDD... it does however have a chance of working... Good Luck.... i'll probably try this soon.

I just thought however, you may be able to hook up your old HDD and transfer all the files to a jump drive... therefore never involving you new HDD and then transfer it all that way....
