My ps3 slim bluray drive is broken, I bought it 10 months ago, don't have the receipt. Sony says you need the receipt to get it fixed for free If I were to get them to send me a shipping box and I just send it to them without the receipt anyways.... what will they do? Is there any chance they will go ahead and do it for free?

yeah got it the week it was released called them and went to their website, both said I need the receipt, and I doubt walmart will be able to get me a copy I entered my serial number on their website and it also asks if u have a receipt, If I say yes I have receipt it says Its "in warranty pay $0". If I say no It says "out of warranty pay $99" If i click yes, they'll send me a shipping box for free, but I won't have the actual receipt to send along with the ps3, what would they do if i did this...would they just send it back to me and say no we won't fix it? or will they hold it ransom until I pay them lol?
I think it depends. I took my Wii apart for a case mod and the disc drive stopped working a few days later. They guy I talked to said it would be $120 for repairs so I sent it in thinking they would charge me but they did it for free even though I voided my warranty. Maybe Sony's just as nice :D
They clearly state in the packaging that gets sent to you that without a receipt you will be charged. I had to go through this but mine was fixed for free as I keep my receipts. If you payed by credit card, I'm sure you could somehow get a copy of your purchasebut you're assed out if you payed cash

Maybe you should register your PS3 and purchase date on the official Playstation website-you need to enter its serial number,and then i'm sure you will be able to get repaired without even showing a receipt.
just registered, on the registration page it says PLEASE NOTE: The warranty offered by SCEA on your PlayStation product(s) is the same whether or not you register. lol does that mean registering was useless?

Yeh thats what happend to me.
When i sent mine in for repairs they asked if i had registered it and because i did, they never asked me for a recipt and it was repaired under warrenty.

All types of consoles can have problems eventually. Doesn't mean to say every PS3 slim is going to get the same problem.

Nah-I think you'll be ok to get repair done once you have registered your console-I mean,Sony can tell when your console was manufactured and shipped to stores by your serial number.

good point, Sony should be able to see when the console was bought and thus the warranty period, but anyway you should phone them and as I said ask Walmart to re-print the receipt (ask to see a manager if they refuse)
