Alright, I am planning on buying my friend's PS3 for a really low price. But the reason why it is a low price is because for some reason it wont read the games. Anyone know whats wrong with it and can i fix it. I want to know how to fix it before I buy it.

It can't read the games? What do you mean exactly? You put it in and nothing happens?

Well I don't think laser is dead cause it reads cds and dvds but not bluray, right

Maybe full hdd format will do the trick, maybe something regarding reading bluray is broken but not the laser itself cause there is only one laser and if he is broken ps3 wouldn't read a thing.

tell us how cheap you are buying it for, and then maybe we will be able to tell if it is worth it.

It's most likely the lens. Usually when it happens it will still play DVDs/CDs but not blu-rays or blu-ray games. Same thing happened to mine.

Either that or you just need to restore the file system Here's how to do it

If that doesn't work though, it definitely needs a new lens. Luckily they are fairly cheap (about $60) and it's an easy fix you can do yourself with online tutorials.

They are around 60 dollars.

TC try to clean the lens with isopropyl alcohol. Maybe that will help.

Sounds reasonable

But before replacing just clean the lens and do what ''amsfm6'' said. It could fix your ps3

Just restoring it won't do anything. You have to restore the file system, like I said above. And if that doesn't work it's the lens for sure.

I'm guessing that you can just buy a new BD Drive and plug it in place of the old one.

I have a 40GB, and have this issue, I bought a new ps3 altogether, restoring the file system will only make it work once or twice and freeze, the lens needs to be replaced, but my system won't read blu-ray and reads everything else, Sony wants 150...., or you can buy the laser for 60 and do it yourself.

The blu ray drive is broken and only sony can fix that. Dont be stupid and buy a ps3 that doesnt play games.
