ive had the ps3 for around a week now and ive asked this question b4 but would like more information if any one else has experienced this situation. well i play on resistance for ages but however when i go to bed and switch off the ps3 into STANDBY mode, the ps3 makes clicking noises for around 5 minutes. it clicks about every 30 seconds for upto 5 minutes.

someone else has said this is the plastic material contracting and expanding due to the heat and I shouldnt be worried, has anyone else has this issue, you wont be able to hear it if your house is buzzing with people, but say when your alone and house is quiet. please help thanks. and by the way im updated to the latest version.

Well, if it was to happen (which I don't believe it to be). Check were you have your system, make sure it is not in a place it can easily over heat. have it more in the open.

my ps3 and tv is basically in an open unit with cold air flowing all around it. i just wanted to know is dat guy saying the truth, that it makes clicking or crackling noises for about 5 minutes after it has been on or off. he said its like a car after you switch it off. he also said heat makes plastic expand and contract, which is why i hear them noises, any more info.

Shacks keeps yours on for a while and after you switch it off, listen to it closely, like 2 metres away.???

I have kept mine on for over 24 hours before and never heard any such thing, and I do not live in a "loud house" at all. Also I have never heard of a car making cracking noises after shutting off either.

If you have heard the noise then why would you come here to see if what that other guy said is true?

Mine does the exact same thing and I asked about this on a couple of forums months ago when I first got my console. Everything I've read points to the plastic expanding but I don't think that's the case since the noises happen at the same intervalls until it stops every time. I -personally- believe it's something else than the plastic expanding but I don't know what it is and from reading all posts where people are asking about it I figure it's normal. It happens some minutes after I turn it on and some minutes after I've turned it off.

I think you might be referring to the same noise a vehicle makes after turning it off. Basically the clicking & cracking noises the engine makes as it cools off. These noises also appear in movie sound effects, when a car shuts down right in front of the camera.

I have the same problem ...wait, i shouldn't call it a problem lol, when i first noticed the clicking noise after turning my ps3 off, i was kinda worried that there was something wrong, but i thought about it and like most of the people on this topic have said ..it is just heat expanding throughout the ps3 and contracting against the plastic .. personally, what i do now is everytime i turn my ps3 off and don't wanna hear that clicking noise, what i do is to the right side of the ps3 where the power and eject buttons are, theres a vent underneath that piece that sort of springs out, i place my hand underneath the vent and gently press up back and forth through the whole piece until i hear the clicking and crackling noise, i keep doing it until i can't hear it anymore. After that, u won't be able to hear it for minutes at a time, hope that helps, and sorry for the wall of text. PEACE.
